The Rock is cookin' up a remake
Filed under: Action, Comedy, Casting, Newsstand, Remakes and Sequels
When we gaze at Clint Eastwood these days and find ourselves
awestruck by his talent, dignity, and overall manliness, it's easy to forget that he once made a movie with a monkey.
You may have blocked it out, but in 1978 he really did hang out with an orangutan (named Clyde) in a little picture
called Every
Which Way But Loose (and in its sequel, Any
Which Way You Can). They were both actually sort of funny and, most importantly, made money. So, with dollar
signs possibly obscuring the vision of its executives, an unnamed studio is in talks with The
Rock to star in a remake of the movie. Assuming he'll be play Philo (the Eastwood role) and not Clyde, this actually might not be a terrible idea. If nothing else, it would give The Rock a chance to show that he actually does have a sense of humor, and is in fact capable of doing more than just angrily running around kicking ass. Filling the role of Clyde, however, will be a challenge. The original simian actor died shortly after Any Which Way was completed - perhaps a nationwide search is in order?

If you didn't laugh at The Rundown, you lack a sense of humor. Or at least don't like ridiculous over the top buddy action movies. Either way, the Rock was damn funny in that movie.
On the subject of the remake, why not? If you are going to remake a Eastwood movie, that one is the easiest to make without having a mob swarm and burn down your set.

Wait, so cinematical is eager for a remake of a movie starring a monkey and proffesional wrestler, but can't stand the idea of real life pals (affleck and damon) remaking a cowboy movie?

The Rock has displayed his comedic side on more than one occasion...Especially with his Gay body guard role in "Be Cool" with John Travolta..The only problem is finding an orangutan that won't be intimidated by him...

This is perfect, it was originally a funny movie, and now it will be even better. When i was little i used to watch The Rock in WWE, and he was always one of my favorites. I even have his autograph. But he is perfect for the lead role and it will be a great movie, i'll bet on it.

Just another movie to add to the "Movies I'll Never Watch" list. As a rule I dont watch movies with Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, 50 Cent or The Rock. I see no need for a remake and believe it will be a huge loser.

I agree that The Rock is a wonderful comedic actor, as anyone who ever watched him on WWE would know. He has played the role of The Rock to the hilt, both way over the top and as straight man. I will look forward to the remake.

This is an all time low for a professional wrestler to compete with a monkey. Imagine the laughs with the wrestling fans. From "Rock in a sock" "To Rock with a Monkey" Keith Garney

The Rock is more suitable for Clyde's role, that way he doesn't have to open that hole in his melon and the only reason that The Rundown was funny was because of Stifler. Hey, I say stick to what your good at and if it's wrestling then stay there. STOP ALL OF THE CROSSING OVER......

The Rock has great screen presence. He does a great job in action movies and is fun to watch. The list of action heroes is pretty lean since Arnold and Sylvester moved on, if it get's made, I'll go see this movie.

I am so sick of remakes. Why can't hollywood make an original movie that has a strong script and gives the public credit for having a brain. I think the reason the movie business is having financial issues is because it doesn't make original films and just remakes bad films. Why pay 10 bucks for bad acting do films that have been done before. I am so glad that we have George Clooney, and Brad Pitt we get movies which lets us think and are entertained. In conclusion you want to charge 10 dollars make it worth it to the public

People are tired of remakes no matter who is in them. The whole funny orangutan worked back then but it won't work now. That stuff just isn't funny anymore. We've all seen it. I like the Rock but this movie will probably bomb.

I loved The Rocks other movies that he's made. I think he will be awesome in the re-make. He will add a 21st century vibe to it so who wouldn't love it.

The Rock started out strong with The Rundown and Walking Tall, then faltered. I hope this movie brings him back as Arnold's true successor! I enjoyed the original; definitely a guy flick.

What do you mean, "give him a chance to show that he has a sense of humor?"
Did you miss Be Cool, the sequel to Get Shorty, with Travolta and Thurman? The Rock IS a funny guy, and he's going places in acting. He doesn't need to stoop to the level of a buddy movie featuring a orangatang. This has the makings to be another... Well, whatever the heck that Brendan Frasier movie was with the little monkey that followed him places. I can't think of the name... Maybe Eddie or something?

I haven't seen that many movies with Rock in it, but I really liked him in the Pacifier, so when I read that he might be making a remake of "Anyway But Loose", I thought, that sounds good.
