1000 word pitch

You've got to love some of the high concept pitches that come out of Hollywood
these days. Today it was announced that Dreamworks Pictures has picked up a pitch by Steve Koren called 1000 Words. The idea behind it is that a man
discovers he only has 1000 words left before he dies. How or why that's even possible we're not sure of, but I do know
if I were ever in that situation, I'd probably waste all 1000 words cursing my predicament.
Koren is no stranger to high concept magic; he also wrote the "What would it be like to be God?" blockbuster, Bruce Almighty, as well as the upcoming Adam Sandler "What would it be like to have a remote control for your life?" comedy, Click. While Nicolas Cage is producing through his Saturn Films, there's no word on whether or not the actor will star. However, I'd look for a big comedic name to attach themselves to this one real soon.

I'd love to see this concept as a serious film, not some Jim Carry/Adam Sandler crap. Sounds like a very cool idea. Oh, and NO NICHOLAS CAGE!

If the film is done well and with some seriousness, it could be rather thought-provoking.

Hey, I've got a concept that is even better...
How about no words at all and a man has only a 1000 farts until he dies. Oh the suspense on how they will sound. you know, juicy, wet, staining, silent but deadly, short, long, oops i crapped my pants......
Hollywood is definately losing their minds, nothing but crap and more crap spewing from the mindless few!!!!

And I'll bet that the last of those 1000 words permitted by the script will be some canned, predictable, supposedly heart-warming philosophy about how we have to live each day to the fullest and in harmony with our fellow human beings.

Yeah this is a great idea, but not as a comedy. Think Pi or some other independent film. This could be a real mind job if it's done right. As a comedy it'll be a couple of cheap laughs and then we'll all forget we ever saw it.

Along with the shmaltltzy "Why can't we live in peace" speil, I'm sure a few hundred of those words will be used romancing the one woman the main character has loved since high school.

Are these spoken or written? Do thoughts diminish his alloted sum? Who's doing the counting - God? My God is more generous than a mere 1,000 words. Do hyphenated words count double? Does he earn credits for contractions? Is he penalized for not using articles? If he commits suicide, do his unspoken words go to his heirs? If he never speaks, will he live forever? If he whispers in a woods and no-one hears it, does it still count, and is a whisper worth as much as a scream?

I think this really does sound like an interesting concept for a movie. Both as a comedy or something serious; maybe a mixture of both. No matter which way it's made I'm still going to watch it. I like the idea, it's not wacky..it's very unique.
