An even bigger Kong?
Filed under: Action, Romance, RumorMonger, Home Entertainment, Peter Jackson
Apparently Peter
Jackson had to leave some really great stuff on the cutting room floor when he trimmed King Kong down to its final, streamlined
(ahem) running time. That's the word from France, anyway. According to a French DVD site, Universal France recently
confirmed to them that there's a giant, It's so great of Jackson to make multiple editions of all of his movies! Of course, in order to afford each new offering, you have to stop eating for a few days - but what's a little hunger in exchange for even more hobbits and apes?

At least you know about the future versions coming out now, 'cos nothing bites more than an unpublicised special edition being scheduled when the bare bones edition is released.

I agree. Peter Jackson does his best to make every release worthwhile. You never buy something twice. The release of the DVD of the original theatrical cut will feature the post-production diaries for kongisking.net and the p.r.-material (trailers) while the EE cut will probably have those brilliant behind-the-scenes featurettes as we know and love them from LotR. I don't have to have the theatrical version, I will just buy the EE. As I did with LotR.
I am more upset with rip offs like the Alien box which is released every year with different content. Or the upcoming Pride & Predjudice-DVD. The Bitish version is shorter and has the US-Ending as a deleted scene. The US version has only the US version. If you are a fan and want to see both version, you have to buy two DVDs. Why can't they make a dvd with "branching" so that you can choose what ending you'd like to watch. This is ripping off fans, not what Jackson does with King Kong. He knows what the fans want: more of it. Pleople who thought the theatrical version was too long won't by the EE anyway, so no harm done.

Well, to fair with the P&P release, the assumption of the studio likely is that:
1) people can't view the version from the other region (even though all-region players are super common, they seem to ignore that)
2) that isn't a movie they expect people to be completists for...
