Spidey goes black in new photo

A brand spanking new promotional photo has surfaced for
Spiderman 3 which features Spidey himself hunched over as rain crashes down upon him. However, the interesting
thing about the photo is that he's wearing all black. Not only does the costume foreshadow the dark events about to take
place in the sequel, but it also has a lot to do with one of Spiderman's number one villains...Venom.
While I'm not the biggest Spidey nut in the world, I'm familiar enough to know that the character of Eddie Brock (as played by Topher Grace) fuses with the black outfit to ultimately become Venom. See, this costume is far from skin-tight pants and a mask - it's actually some sort of alien that slowly attempts to become one with whoever wears it. Now, in the comics, there's this whole battle on another planet and Spiderman winds up in black after his traditional red and blue gets destroyed.
Something tells me they will ditch the intergalactic stuff and, somehow, this black costume will be found by Parker on earth. Regardless, this photo has really pumped me up now for the third installment which, in my opinion, will turn out to be the best one so far. What's your take on the black?

There really doesn't seem to be any color in the poster, maybe its meant to be black and white for dramatic effect. Because if that's Spiderman's version of the "Venom" suit, then that's pretty unoriginal.

I think the pic has more to do with the tone of the movie than with Venom. It's more blue, as in gloomy, than black, as in evil. It seems like a big jump to assume they are alluding to Venom.
It would be awesome, though, if that did play into the story.

The Sony site says that it is The Black Suit, it isn't just an issue of dramatic coloring.

Well, If Sony says that, and it is his Venom suite, it's not a very good design.

Well, as the Venom symbiote was more like a smooth second skin over Peter's muscles (and not a textured thing like we are seeing here, and like the current spidey costume in the films) it is more likely the Graphic Design department getting lazy with their deadlines and darkened up an existing photo.
Then the guys in PR have to do the whole Lovitz "That's it! That's the ticket!" bit to keep us from raggin' on them.

Wow - that's a little disapointing. They took one of the colored Spiderman suits and dyed it. I was expecting a little more from the "Venom" suit. When Spiderman first put it on, I thought he looked so cool, but this version is just lame. I prefer the original look of the "Venom" suit I like how they are playing off the movie with a Daily Bugle front page though.

You're far too cynical and for no good reason. You're hung up on the exact specifics of what the symbiote in the comic looked like. Clearly they're making changes.
The graphic design department is getting lazy with their "deadlines" for a movie that doesn't come out for over another 14 months? Get real.

I thought it was some cool-looking black and white photo, not a lazily designed black suit! (although, come to think of it, he would look rather ridiculous on screen if they stick entirely to the comic design, something like a, er, ninja?)

actually, Gregg's right about the symbiote. it merges with the host, and manifests as a second skin. not a suit. perhaps spidey's just going goth here. check his fingernails.

Listen: the symbiote thing - forget it. If there's any pre-existing Venom material used in this film, it's going to come for the Ultimate Spider-Man side of things. Brock as a Peter Parker type, not a beefcake, and the suit manufactured rather than a living thing.
Mark my words.

I think it is him while he is wearing the symbiote. In fact, the top headline of the "newspaper" send wild storm encompasses the city" Maybe that's how they will play how the symbiote gets to earth during a storm.
I think this picture is very cool.

Its not even a photo. It looks more like a painting to me. I don't know why everybody is getting so excited.
Also, something about seeing spider-man in the black suit makes me doubt even more that we will be seeing venom in the new movie. Not sure why...

I think this is going to follow a certain degree of the classic script layout. 10 min into it, Peter finds the symbiote costume, battles Sandman in it as he becomes more possesed by it(?) and half way through the film he ditches it and then it finds Brock. the last half of the movie will be 2 ultra powerful villains... Venom and Sandman...

In the higher res image, there seems to be in image reflecting off Spider-Man's eye, just like how Dr. Octopus could be seen on some of the Spider-Man 2 posters. Here's the link to the higher res image http://media.filmforce.ign.com/media/041/041073/img_3412494.html
It looks like a goblin sort of...

It doesn't matter that this doesn't resemble Venom in any way, but that it is simply Spidey's regular suit colored black.
I call it lazy hype building.

HRNK!
If you remove the grayscale and flip it you can clearly see the face in Spidey's eye.

Not my work, but rather awesome. I wonder if Sony is being intentionally viral about this, releasing an obvious B&W photo that tells us to "look closely" by ... removing the grayscale. And it worked. Nice. Is that Venom, though? It's a rather odd looking character, I must say.

Wait. . .wasn't Thomas Haden Church supposed to be the villain? Last picture I saw of him on the Spider-Man site, he was dressed like Sandman. Or did I see that incorrectly?

I think it is more of the concept of him wearing the black colored suit after the venom suit like in the comic where it showed the strange alien war on another planet. He wore black after he had already gotten rid of the venom suit and you know who dies.
