Rocky Balboa script review
Filed under: Scripts, DIY/Filmmaking, FanFilms, Remakes and Sequels
I usually decide how I'll watch a film long before it hits the theaters. For
example, 'Rocky Balboa', to me, feels like a pay per view rental. Perhaps, depending on the buzz, I may upgrade it to a
Blockbuster rental (Yes, I am the only soul living on this planet who still rents films from Blockbuster) should I feel
it deserves a walk to the store.
In saying that, a small script review for 'Rocky Balboa' showed up online via an AICN reader and, from what I've read thus far, this puppy appears to be heading straight for pay per view, if not cable. The actual review doesn't give away too much, aside from a rant on Sylvester Stallone's horrible grammar and vocabulary skills, however it does provide us with the basic plot. OK, here's where I'll shine my "Beware of SPOILERS" sign ...
One of the questions on my mind, story-wise, was why 'Rocky Balboa' is coming out of retirement to fight again? Well, without reciting the entire review, how about I just share this part with you: "Meanwhile, the rocket scientists at ESPN have designed a computer program that pits current fighters against the classics. After using CGI to pit Mason Dixon against the Philly slugger, 'analysts' realize they have a great fight on their hands." See, if Rocky would have decided to step back into the ring after producing a failed reality show ... wait, that is what happened. Nevermind. CGI rocks!

Listen Mr. Davis--i can appreciate your opinion on yet another cheesy rocky movie and the fact that it probably won't be good--but Rocky is a cultural icon and it deserves some credit just for that...
fyi--i heard they were shooting him running up the steps in philly --so it should at least be cool to see that...no?
Come on man...come on---you know you want to see the steps scene...hear the eye of the tiger music--you know you find yourself listening to that when you walk to work just getting pumped for your day..
feel it...feel the eye of the tiger. ...
oh, and get your ass some netflix dude.

Yes, I am from the Philly area also..and I am very excited for the final Rocky movie! Running up the steps for the last time, and they filmed it when it was snowing here..how cool is that! Everyone remembers the 1st Rocky almost 30 years ago.. The sad part is that Adrian is dead...I think they should of kept her alive for the movie. So we could hear Sly yell....YO! Adrian! I did it! LOLOL I will see it in the theater no other way..:) Go see it..have fun!
"Gonna Fly Now"..

I worked on this movie for a few days and found it to be funny and heart warming. I think it will be a big hit. The movie makes fun of Rocky's age, but we are laughing with him, not at him.

this is awful.rocky has been my hero ever since i was a young boy.to feel the struggle the torment then perseverance and fortitude and triumph , thats what lifes about the good in people and what can be not looking at the glass as totally empty , too much pessimism .we need more heroes like rocky to step up and step out. rocky is a man of conviction and love and compassion and learned , more of a scholar than critics ive heard.go rocky!!!!

Ok, sure. I can understand why many people would say the "Rocky" franchise has been worn out, but the first 4 films were incredible. Maybe the 5th one wasn't what it should have been, but that is why I'm hoping number 6 might be able to redeem it and leave one of the greatest film franchises off on a positive note. You can trash the movie and base your opinions off of an online script review but I for one will give Mr. Stalone the benefit of the doubt and look forward to this film with great hope and anticipation.

America needs another Rocky film about as much as Pee Wee Herman needs another adult movie theater. As much as Madonna needs another horse ride. As much as Ricky Williams needs another.. well you understand. Rocky, er, Sylvester, please. You've retired Balboa 2 more times than Sugar Ray Leonard's actual boxing career. Hang up the gloves. I want to remember you, or Rocky, as he should be remembered; about to punch, and take a punch, from Apollo Creed in the ending to Rocky 3 and.... freeze! End scene.

Well, Mr Davis...you talk about the "horrible grammer" of Rocky Balboa...Have you lstened to people on Tv or those right in front of you??? About 10yrs ago I started noticing/hearing people butcher the "king's English"...such as: I ak him for a piece of cake...rather than I asked him for a piece of cake...When in the hell did they spell A S K as Ak?? The movie was trying to show someone under educated, but strong in spirit..I have heard grads of high school AND colleges talk like that (in reference to the above) It galls me to no end that people will not speak/enunciate proprerly...I think the schools should do more for speech & phonics as a regular course... As for the movie my late husband & I enjoyed the movie & He relieved his past through that first Rocky movie.

Mr. Davis seemingly like most critics have forgotten the simple facts of entertainment. Just because a film does not have their level of social redemption, just as the critics don't have my respect as such, in fact the greater majority of the time I would go to see a movie rated poorly by the critics because they don't have any idea as to what good plain entertainment with social values are. With out adding illiterate BS and crack hoes and drugs into everything, kids killing in the back alleys, nothing would be able to be marketed these days. Get with it, america is going down the drain without good old american heroes, and I'm not talking Snoop Dog!

Rocky is Awesome!
So what that he is fictional, he has the power to motivate anyone.
So I'll sit through the boring contrived plot with the bad dialogue just to see Rocky overcome the obstacles again and prove that he's not just another bum.
You gotta love that theme music from the Original Movie!

Come on man, how can you honestly comment on something you know little to nothing about. I can't stand critical morons who bash something before it is fully created and ready for public viewing. Get off your computer and get to a gym - maybe your negativity will start to fade along with your (presumed) love handles!

I know a very small bit about this most recent "Rocky" movie ... and it has to do with the care that is being taken to make as good a motion picture as possible. Casting has been extensive and meticulous ... so do not be so certain that this movie will flop if it's released in theatres first.
I'm not a huge fan of Stallone or his films ... but, as many of your correspondents point out, "they must be doin' sumpin' right"! In that same vein, I am no great fan of Russell Crowe (since long before he began throwing telephones in public) but truth be told, his "Cinderella Man" is a terrific movie ... and he is damned good in it! That's another prizefight film to be recommended.

oooh. i can't wait for rocky: the musical. or maybe rocky meets rambo.
this man is a coaster. like chubby checker and his innumerable versions of the twist, sylvester stallone is coasting on the one good thing he did. rocky was fine--maybe even great. but everything after was tripe. same with rambo except that one started out as tripe. and as long as we, the informed public, keep accepting what all the coasters dish out, they'll keep dishing. look at how many remakes we get from hollywood. why come up with a new idea when america will keep watching rehashes of old movies--even movies from old dumb tv shows. what can we expect next? pepsi--the movie?
