No more Star Trek film?

Well folks, it appears as if our dreams for a Star Trek 11 have
officially been squashed. TrekWeb reports
that Doug Mirabello, who is Rick Berman's personal assistant, told
Dreamwatch magazine (Wait, so magazines interview assistants now?) that you may as well forget about a new Star
Trek film or TV series for the time being. Man, I can almost taste the tears forming under your eyes - but trust
me, I've been there. You know what they say: If you love something, set it free. And if it comes back, then it's yours
forever.
Maybe personal assistant Doug Mirabello needs some time away...to heal. In fact, he says, "I think this is actually for the best – the public needs to want to see Star Trek again. The best way to achieve this is to take it away for a few years and then bring it back and do it right. The franchise needs a totally new creative team, some time off, and a cool new approach." Oh yeah, and what if I meet another Sci-Fi series while you're gone Doug? Huh? And what if we hit it off and I don't want your Star Trek anymore? Something tells me it would be awfully hard to be just friends.
Mirabello also admitted that Erik Jendresen's Star Trek: The Beginning script has been trashed and plans for Patrick Stewart to make a return as well as other past Trek heroes is a long shot at best. So, do you think Mirabello is right? Do you feel as if a longer wait would produce a better product? Or are you itching for more Star Trek right now?

If it prevents another movie like Insurrection or Nemesis I'm all for it.

I don't think any time period is going to solve the issue, I think it's down to doing a Joss WhedonBabylon 5:
* listen to the fans and understand what makes them enjoy the show
* employ writersdirectors who are fans themselves and understand the genre
* if you have a TV series, do not mess around with the scheduling, no matter what show schedule messing can kill it
* if you have a TV series be loyal, do not dump it when figures don't match Desperate Housewives

Yeah, they need to step back a bit. A darker, edgier, Trek film would be great. New cast, a new starship (Enterprise-F, or G)that is larger, faster, more powerful, & and an "epic feel" script that runs for 2.5 hours. Lots of action, great writing, some sex appeal, and dark humor. This is what this franchise needs.

hey, what if joss whedon tried to write some futuristic sci-fi deal. i bet he could include all that.
i like star trek. honest i do. i remember watching re-runs of the original on sunday afternoons with my older brother. it was cool. but i'm the wrong kind of nerd for it now.
so this assistant guy might be right. let's go on a break. star trek can work out, get a makeover, by a new car, get something to appeal to me again. then we'll hook back up.
but for now, i'm gonna run off with my copy of serenity, watch firefly episodes some more, and be content.

Thank God! Star Trek under the watch of Rick Berman has become a joke. Not as good as it used to be. When the talented Manny Coto came on board to help save Enterprise, his work was still not enough to fix a show that simply wasn't a good idea to begin with.
They tried the dark and gritty theme with the Nemesis and Enterprise and it just didn’t work.
This movie would've been a disaster and probably the final nail in the coffin for the franchise.
I'd say, Star Trek's condition is where the James Bond franchise will be in about 5-10 years from now.
When you have people mismanaging it, bad things will happen.

Berman has said since last summmer or so that Star Trek's taking a 2 year break. J. Micheal Straczynski broke the news to the net, after he went in to talk about possibly taking over a Star Trek show or movie.
However, this "taking it away to make people want it" is garbage. (Take a break to let people forget Nemesis is more likely.) Write a good movie, with good characters -- and don't ignore your past (yes, Data ALREADY had a brother, you can admit it)... and the movie will do well. You can even munge your past some (ala the Borg Queen), but at least then you still realize you were a television show that developed some good plots/conflicts/characters already.

A TV series based in the Trek Universe is what I want to see, but get away from Star Fleet. How about a stolen Klingon Bird of Prey. A rogue mixed crew of Pirates makin a living same as the crew from Firefly, except they have a Cloaking device, and weapons. A Human captain with a lil bionic engineering , A mixed-alien race but hot female second in command, a witty engineer/bar-room brawler, trigger happy but accurate gunner...etc.. The Stolen B'Rel can have a few modifications, that make her..unique. Or Just do a Star Trek miniseries based of the Klingon Novels.
I dunno... few Ideas I have twirlin around.

They should do a series about Section 31 - the super secret service. Just imagine Mission: Impossible with futuristic technology and aliens. As long as they don't make it all slick and music video. It would have to be very dark which goes against the feeling of the original series, but embraces the corruption of the Federation which Next Gen and DS9 explored.

I hope it is not true. I hope they do come out with 11 or another series. Many of you so called trek fans hated DS9, Voyager and Enterprise. What do you have now.... reruns! You never even bothered to accept each series as part of the Trek franchise. Nor give support, you just criticised... and ultimately YOU will kill the franchise as a whole. It's not about TOS or TNG, its about Trek as a whole. Don't be so anal, enjoy each series and take it in as different parts of Trek. Give them a chance. Like I said I hope they do come out with another series or another movie.
