Joel Silver Says Vendetta is Risky

In discussing his upcoming graphic novel-to-film adaptation V for
Vendetta, producer Joel Silver calls it a "smart" action film, comparing it with previous Wachowski effort The
Matrix, in contrast to many other action flicks Joel has worked on. While Joel acknowledges that he enjoyed
working on general action films as well (quote: "Look, I've made a lot of stupid action films in my life, which,
by the way, I'm proud of") he says that there is something more provocative and interesting about action films
which "masquerade" as something else. According to Joel, "smart action" films such as Vendetta
and Matrix carry a greater box office risk than your standard variety action flick, because they are
complex, difficult to swallow, and at times tough to understand. He goes on to say that Vendetta doesn't even have much
of the type of action he's used to working with- there are a few explosions and knife fights, but overall the film will
be a "dialog laced" product.Thoughts? I can't say I'm particularly jazzed about the upcoming Vendetta film - Alan Moore and the various companies involved with his work have left me too irritated/disappointed to expect much from a film adaptation. However, I'm willing to have my mind changed, if anyone wants to throw down some persuasive arguments.

Alan Moore doesn't have anything to do with films based on his work, he refuses to even take money for them, cause he's a genius/idiot(delete as appropriate)...
His comic books are good, the problems arise when the producers try to adapt them to cinema and in doing so lose the hole point of the book(LXG - I still can't believe they used that acronym!) Apparently with this they haven't changed too much and seem too captured the atmosphere well(not sure about the "bullet-time" blades but...whatever)
I've only read good reviews about it so far and am looking forward to it...
come on it's gotta be better that the matrix sequels...
plus Stephen Fry is in it! ...still waiting for him to show up on house;)

It's gonna suck! Alan Moore is the most overrated "writer" in comix history!

I've seen this movie last december at Butt-Numb-A-Thon. And no, I am no ?er-Geek who read only comic-books in his life. I actually did never read "V For Vendetta". I was not even sold by the trailer. But "V" is a very good film. It is stylisticly coherent, well written (although loads of people will complain about the extensive use of voice-over), and well acted. It is much less and action film but a thoughtful and very provocative character-driven drama about the thin line between terrorist and freedom fighters. It's more "1984" then "Equilibrium". And the final 20 minutes are brilliantly edited and worth the money for the ticket alone. Give this movie a chance. It deserves it.

I'll be suprised if this movie works:
-Alan Moore read the script and called it rubbish, refused to be involved in the adaptation and will give all monet he recieves to the V artist, David Lloyd
-Joel Silver out and out lies about Alan Moore giving his blessing for the movie (bad karma, Joel!)
