Box Office Report: Failure to Launch lends itself to so many clever headlines that I'm confounded by the options and can't pick one

The box office as a whole was be up an estimated
10% from last weekend, led by a trio of new releases that filled the top spots. Easily topping the list was Failure to Launch, which
took in $24.6 million - not bad for a movie that, after having its release delayed, got mostly bad reviews from
critics. Filling the second and third spots this weekend were two remakes: Disney's The Shaggy Dog made $16 million, while The Hills Have Eyes came it at just under that number, with $15.5 million. As the AP
report points out, the fact that this weekend's three new releases are so different means they appeal to different
viewers, so they tended to take audiences from older films, rather than from one another.Filling the fourth spot was 16 Blocks which, in only its second week of release, was down to just over $7 million. Madea's Family Reunion, meanwhile, earned nearly $6 million, thus bringing its three week total to $55.8 million, or nearly 10 times its budget. Who thinks we'll be seeing another movie about the life of Miss Madea? Of the other top earning films this weekend, only Eight Below made more than $5 million - ah, the power of puppies. (The complete numbers are after the jump.)
1. Failure to Launch: $24.6 million
2. The Shaggy Dog: $16 million
3. The Hills Have Eyes: $15.5 million
4. 16 Blocks: $7.3 million
5. Madea's Family Reunion: $5.8 million
6. Eight Below: $5.4 million
7. Aquamarine: $3.65 million
8 (tie). The Pink Panther: $3.6 million
8 (tie). Ultraviolet: $3.6 million
10. Date Movie: $2.5 million

What Hollywood obviously needs is more movies that make a statement about America today. More preachy, sanctimonious, anti-Bush sentiment please, something with a real sophisticated and nuanced stance on today's geopolitical issues. Maybe something really "smart" with George Clooney and Barbra Streisand or something. After a week of work there's nothing I want more than to be rallied to the streets to protest something. If I'm on a date, please, please, just give me something about how sh*tty my country is. Only then will the box office stay up at normal levels.
I haven't seen it, and have zero interest, but I LOVE that Madea and Big Momma have been rocking the box office this year. I mean, it's not rocket science, get a clue and get back to ENTERTAINING instead of whatever you call what you're doing now.

Interesting, because although I haven't seen it yet, I've heard complaints of Madea's christian overtones being too preachy.
Of course, I'm sure it pales in comparison to Land of the Dead's anti-US overtones, but what doesn't? That movie was the epitome of shallow agendas. Romero lost his touch, and I could rant endlessly about it, but you're just complaining about politics, and Land of the Dead would be the worst example.
"I'll declare a Jihad on them!"
