Haggis is Against All Enemies
Filed under: Drama, Thrillers, Deals, Newsstand, Politics
Picking a project to follow up the either trite or
brilliant Crash (and, since it won best picture, no one
really cares about the haters, do they?), writer/director Paul
Haggis has gone in an interesting direction: he's in final talks to direct Against
All Enemies, an adaptation of Richard A. Clarke's condemnation of the Bush administration's handling of the
threat posed by al-Qaida. Though Haggis won't be writing the screenplay himself, he's expected to "supervise"
the next draft, which is in the hands of James
Vanderbilt. Haggis himself is currently writing and will direct Death and Dishonor for Warner Brothers, and it's not clear which
project will be made first.Aside from its intensely political nature, what's interesting about a movie version of Clarke's memoir is its cast: George W. Bush, for example, is sort of a main character in the thing. Is Columbia actually going to hire someone to play him? What about Condoleezza Rice, and Donald Rumsfeld? While I'd be the first to admit that such a thing could work (Nixon, which is packed to the gills with portrayals of well-know politicians, is fantastic), the fact that the central figures of Clarke's book are still in the public eye complicates things. Will we, for example, be able to see a Bush on screen without giggling, and thinking immediately of SNL?

How are they going to get the deceit by the Bush Adminstration in just one, short movie? I would assume they must already be planning at least two or three sequels.

Believe it or not, Bush bashing, like Clinton bashing will be popular for years to come. But so many people have a hard time telling the difference between telling the truth about a public official and bashing them.
I look forward to seeing it.

Great idea! Hope you do it.
Timothy Bottoms is a remarkable Dubya look-alike. (Sorry Timothy!). He'd make a terrific George W. Bush (if there's such a thing as "a terrific George W. Bush":)

Sharon has a very good point but I think the story needs to be told in one good picture so the majority will see the truth. Bush has gone well beyond Clinton in deserving impeachment for war crimes and acting "above the law". Those that state "we are at war!" to substantiate Bush's actions need to look past their own noses. Who do you think created this war with Iraq? It certainly wasn't al-Quida!
It was President Bush AND WITHOUT Congressional approval.
Stacie is right. Bush WILL go down as the WORST president of the United States if he isn't impeached first!
Bush allowed Bin Laden to escape.

The only people more stupid than the Bush Administration are the people that actually think they're doing a good job.

No one is bashing anyone. IT IS HIS movie that we have all watched and if you do not like the image you create with your actions you are free to change them at anytime. Making the movie is just another movie of the first movie we all lived through, but sometimes people have to watch it twice to get some of the punch lines.

At least we have a president that is not chasing skirts and having little parties in the Oval Room. Typical of Hollywood and its ultra liberal ways our whole country is on a downward slide. My youth was so much better off. Patti of Santa Ynez

How can this film be made? In order to capture the essence of the Bush Administration and their co-conspirators, like The US Supreme Court, who initially appointed George W. Bush President in 2000, you would need a film the size of all of the "Star Wars" films combined. Throw in all of the lies and deceit, you can then add the length of all of the "Harry Potter" films combined. By the time a truthful film is in the can, we will all be dead and George W. Bush will be one line in US history books and one step below Richard M. Nixon as an absolute idiot and the worst President in American history!

Paul must have lived on the moon for the last several years. If he'd just read the Constitution of the united States he'd see no one is bashing Bush, he is a domestic enemy. He has lied about 911( For proof of this See The documentary entitled " Loose Change " @ www.loosechange911.com ), The Iraq War , Spied on the Citizenry, unlwafully and without warrant, in violation of the fourhth Amendment to the Constitution. Wake up Paul, smell the coffee .

By the way, the film "Crash" sucked. It is an LA film voted for Best Picture by the LA film community. The Academy was the only one to give it a Best Picture nod.
It's a bad TV movie with an excellent cast at best.

Your country -- your president -- love it or leave it! Bush is not the first and certainly won't be the last to make mistakes! Be glad the USA has the freedom to elect a president. Don't like it -- try living elsewhere -- then maybe you'll appreciate what you have!

A good idea.Why...because I hate to say it but there are people like my sister that never picks up a newspaper or watches the news, and just because her child is in the military she stands by our illustrious commander in chief. However she will watch a movie, so maybe it will help enlighten and open up some of the closed minds in this country.
