Just what we need: a new Dirty Dozen

According to Variety, Joel
Silver and Lynn Harris (who happens to be an executive vice president at Warner Brothers) were sitting around
chatting one day about the kind of movie they'd like to remake. Because, you know, there really aren't enough remakes
being made these days. "Gee, Lynn," said Silver, "I'd love to do a new version of The
Dirty Dozen!" "Holy crap, Joel!", replied Harris. "I think we own the rights to the
original - let's turn that mother out!" Or something like that. So, basically, we have the friendship of Silver and Harris to blame for this one. Silver will be producing the film, which is going to be SO EPIC that it needs three writers: André Nemec and Josh Appelbaum, who both worked on Alias, and Scott Rosenberg will huddle together, trying to write a movie that's already been written. Co-producer Susan Downey claims that their version will be modernized, and "a high-testosterone, fun, big movie." Oh boy - fun and big? Why, I can hardly wait!

Seriously who did this marketing research or what individuals were polled that responded, "Yay I love remakes, nothin I love better then rehashing an old movie. Bahh with your newfangled movies and whatnot."
I hear next Summer we get a Ben Hur Remake and Back to the Future 1.5.

I have to admit, that i've been telling my movie friends that if Hollywood is gonna keep making re-makes, they should take a serious look at DIRTY DOZEN... While I'll always love the performances of most of the cast, i've always tried to imagine what the movie could've been with today's technology and a monster budget... CASTING HINT: Ed Harris in the Lee Marvin role... it would be PERFECT!!!

Come on though, in this Hollywood of remake after remake of films that are hardly five years old, isn't it good that they're deciding to look a little further back?
I think if they applied the idea of a mega cast to this film again we could be looking at something that's quite enjoyable. Imagine the Oceans cast kind of concept thrown at this movie? It worked first time...

Hey what's wrong with this idea? The original was OK, not fantastic but the concept is great and yes if Ed Harris was involved it would be awesome (incredibly creepy and cool in History of Violence) - and played a bit more evil so that the convicts were a bit more crazy in the crimes they committed...this makes more sense than an A-team movie since those actors defined those roles...
Must have a Donald Sutherland cameo too.
My dream Dirty Dozen is to have all the 80's and 90's war/kung-fu/fighting stars from around the world in one crazy suicide mission...like Van Damme, Seagal, Jeff Speakman, Sho Koshuge and throw in Tony Jaa - now I would pay real money to see that!

The original is a classic. I seriously hope they reconsider this and decide not to do it. I would not go see the remake. Don't mess with a classic. Besides, there was one black guy in the original, there will be at least 3 in the remake. What rappers will they get to "act" (I use this term loosely) and ruin the movie. What is with getting all these black guys to try to make a movie cool? Country outsells rap and is more popular, why do need some yo yo rappers in so many movies?

I find remakes of good films always bad. Only chance for a remake is from a bad film.
