PERSONALLY, I think what made the show was the huge variety of cultural background of the ensemble. Kotter as a Jew, Boom Boom Washington, Vinnie Barbarerro (SP?) It was a melting pot just like our country. Who are they going to get to laugh like Horshack? I am not sure Ice Cube is a good choice. Ice-T would have been interesting to me. Why mess with success though and change the character so much by changing their cultural background.

Here we go again...the show was awesome, but the movie will stink...why? How can Ice Cube play Kotter? Kotter was a JEWISH!!! It's just like with Kojak...Kojak was GREEK...how can a black guy play him? What's next? Denzel playing Baretta? It's Horsesh*t...another thing...they'll probably make the whole thing a hip hop rap type of deal...and get some rapper to slaughter John Sebastian's excellent theme song...

One last thing....what ever happened to the angry, militant, down with AmeriKKKa Ice Cube? Guess he's found the wrror of his ways. Hell, he's the new Sinbad ain't he?

Ice Cube as Kotter is a joke...it's like Cedric the Entertainer being Ralph Kramden in the Honeymooners movie...did ANYONE see that or did that open only on overseas flights? Gary Shandling would be perfect, actually after seeing Kaplan on TV in the poker tournament he still looks like he could pull off his own role.........ed

I LOVED "Welcome Back Kotter" as a kid and when I read that it was being made into a movie, I was like "Awesome, I can't wait!". Now that I read that Ice Cube will be/might be playing Mr. Kotter, I'M PISSED! It makes absolutely no sense! The ethnic diversity really made the show and that's where alot of the humor comes from. I agree with the person that asked "Who saw the Honeymooners remake with Cedric the Entertainer?" I sure didn't - they botched it... and if Ice Cube plays Mr. Kotter, that movie will be botched too! Nobody's saying Ice Cube is not a good actor. I'm just saying, that's not the right role for him. Please Ice Cube - get your big ego out of the way and let Mr. Kotter be cast properly! There will be other roles for you!! (And this is not a racial thing, 'cause I'm black).

What's this crap about another black man playing a white role.There have been blacks playing Kojak and the Honeymooners and now you say Kotter?Give me a break!!How would blacks like a white guy to play the life of Martin Luther King.It is rediculous.There has even been a black version of the Wizard of Oz--pure sacrilege!!! I think its stupid for them to switch people like this. Like its already been said, Kotter was a Jew, not black. The fact that Ice Cube, or whatever his name is, is in it, probably means its going to be some sort of lame black comedy. I do not trust him with this remake. I will however see it, to see how it fares in comparison to my expectations. cheers.

To repeat what was stated earlied, why do people think that by remaking something anc completely changing the whole thing it will be a big hit, examples honeymooners (which none of the actors ever heard or seen the show before they got the role), wild wild west where will smith trashed a legendary series, and every other role that should be white person given to black actor for reperations. I can only imagine the uproar if someone wanted to remake a movie version of whats happenin' and jim carey was cast as jimmy walker, you would think there were public lynchings in hollywood

This will suck. Just like the horrible Honeymooners movie... it just shows that those in Hollywood haven't an original bone in their collective bodies. Ice Cube will play Kotter? So instead of it being campy on an all white scale it will be made into a 'Barbershop' movie in a schoolhouse... Sorry.. this is going to suck... its not like IceCube is Lawrence Olivier... If Samuel Jackson or Morgan Freeman (seeing as they seem to want an African American lead) were to be cast it would be a movie id give a chance to... now? It will be out for 3 weeks and be in Blockbuster in the "yeah.. this was actually a real movie" section in 4.

I agree about hollywood running out of original ideas. Welcome Back Kotter was one of my favorite shows growing up! Ive thought about it and I dont mind Ice Cube playing Kotter AS LONG as they keep him the same type of guy. I mean Kotter was somewhat of a dork with a terrible sense of humor, he stood for what he believed in but was in no way a strong imposing individual, which is typically how I see Ice Cube and his characters. And yes like someone mentioned, Judaism is NOT a skin tone its a religios affiliation. Hopefully they will do the original much more justice than the honeymooner remake did. I was kind of excited to see the Honeymooners but once I saw it I was so disappointed! I look forward to seeing Welcome Back Kotter's remake.

All these negative comments about Ice Cube being Mr Kotter, and how
bad it will be for a BLACK MAN to play him. Gabe Kaplan gave his
approval, so he thinks it will be good. If some of you had your way,
there would be NO African Americans on T.V, on Theaters screens or on
stage.Besides, I didn't think the original was all that anyway. A
bunch of delinquents, oh, that's real funny. Why don't you keep your

Who cares what color the teacher is? The premise came from the CAST being multicultural. I've seen Ice Cube in such diverse rolls from WAY back when that I think he just MAYBE can pull this off. Okay, you have a Latino, Italian, Black, and Jew; has everyone forgotten that these kids came from the same place? Lived in the same neighborhood? As did Mr. Kotter. What made that show was that despite the differences of ethnicity these people came from the same place with the same experiences. SIGNED - JUAN EPSTEINS MOTHER!!! LOL!!!
