Kevin Smith Wants a Clerks Cartoon Movie
Filed under: Animation, Comedy, RumorMonger, Fandom, Remakes and Sequels
Rumors and unfinished projects follow Kevin Smith like
children followed the Pied Piper of Hamlin. For View Askew fans this can be rather annoying, as they build their
excitement for a project only to find that it has been moved, delayed, or utterly abandoned. Not surprisingly, rumors
of a Clerks sequel (a direct Clerks sequel
focusing around Dante and Randall, that is) have been floating around for nearly as long as Smith has been making films
- and fans of the Askewniverse will probably remember that at one point, these rumors insisted that Clerks 2 was going to be an animated feature in the vein of
the sadly failed Clerks cartoon. Of course, we all
know now what the real Clerks 2 will be; but have hopes for an animated Clerks feature died now that
a live action sequel is on its way? Perhaps not, according to the man himself. In a recent panel at Wizard World LA, Smith was asked about his future plans for the Askewniverse. He replied that he may be interested in putting together a direct-to-DVD Clerks animated feature called "Clerks: Sell Out" in which Dante and Randall leave their jobs to make a movie about working in a convenience store. According to Smith, Weinstein's reaction to this idea was, "You’ve just run out of ideas, haven’t you?” Now keep in mind this is coming from Kevin Smith, who always has a million great ideas for every one that actually manifests. But still - I'd love to see something new in the vein of the Clerks cartoon. Oh, and head on over to CBR for plenty more great tidbits from the Smith panel.

When will this talentless hack finally give it up
and admit he got real lucky once in the movie
business and just move on to something else. Clerks
was awful. In a moment of cultural mass delusion,
it hit the jackpot. Everything else was even worse
and received the appropriate response. Early
sundance gave us Soderbergh and Tarantino, later
sundance gave us hyped-up hacks like Smith and that
other one-hit wonder Ed Burns.
Clerk 2 will be the bookend to this moron's career.

Talentless hack's career still thriving, a dozen years after it started! "Jerx" still posting anonymously on the internet, pissing and moaning about the good fortune of others!
Grow up, dude. Just because you don't care for me or my flicks doesn't mean I should quit doing what I do. Just ignore me and whatever I'm working on.

Okay, if you don't like Kevin Smith, that's cool. But personally, I'd save the hatred for people who make shit like "Dukes of Hazzard." Although, to be fair, Jessica Simpson's ass is a great actress and has a presence on screen not seen since the days of Kate Hepburn.

Wah! Kevin Smith is mad that someone called him out! If you're really Kevin Smith, you just usurped Joe Rogan as the most desperate celebrity that I've ever heard of. Getting into electronic pissing contests is not becoming to your askew-ness. It is funny, though, to know that maybe the guy has a point.
I don't think he thinks you should stop working. Neither do I. I think you should stop coasting on that borderline sitcom humor. Put Silent Bob to bed and try something new. Wear a pair of long-legged pants and a shirt that has sleeves. Maybe you could give it up for Lent, whatever's left of it. Just my opinion.

Man, I just laughed at the thought of Kevin Smith posting here. Kevin, if that is you, how about opining over at AICN (again) but this time, addressing the sore subject that is *Superman Returns* in one of its allotted talkback sections? If you truly know the film's storyline, would you answer if you'd rather see that or a filmed version of the screenplay you wrote with even more last-minute changes made by Jon Peters? Hmmm...I smell "An Evening with Kevin Smith, Disc 3" in the works! :)

ps. Kevin...I would love to see you pen a script for *Doctor Who*. Hope you are catching the episodes courtesy of the SciFi Channel if you didn't acquire them last year through lesser legal methods...
