The Simpsons Are Finally Coming to a Theater Near You

Chalk this one up as something that should have happened
7 seasons ago: The Simpsons are finally making a movie.
Okay, so maybe we've known that for awhile
now, but nothing has ever felt concrete, at least to me. I remember hearing that a possible film would
involve Bart losing his virginity, and that idea circled its way around the world, only to see nor hear anything
more.
Harry Shearer, who voices Rev. Lovejoy, Ned Flanders and a bunch more Springfield nutjobs, was a guest on the Mancow radio show and spilled a tiny portion of the beans when asked about a Simpsons movie. First off, he confirmed the 2-year contract extension for the television show (which will put them at roughly 1000 seasons) and said that the extension will not delay the movie as the actors are already laying down dialogue.
As far as story goes, he gave nothing up but said it will be more edgy - but not R-rated edgy. Also, there would be swearing in the movie, but not from his characters. Damn, and here I was really hoping Flanders would drop at least one F-bomb. There was no word on whether the movie would go The Family Guy route and travel straight to DVD or follow South Park to the big screen, but regardless (and I know the fans have to be with me on this), I feel it's all coming a bit too late.

They're making a big mistake by not going R-rated edgy. The Simpsons has always been an adult cartoon, so why are they holding back? This is their one and only chance to let loose outside of FCC regulations.

I am totally excited about a seeing the Simpsons on the big screen. It better not go straight to DVD. I feel like I 've been watching them for half my life and I think it's about time there was a movie. Does anyone else compare the people in their lives to Simpsons characters?

wasn't the movie supposed to mark the end of the series? I thought I read that some time ago... guess they changed their minds.... let's hope they get more inspiration for better episodes, hasn't been as good since the mid-late 90's in to the early 00's

As a huge fan of The Simpsons, I am going to have to sharply disagree with you on this. I don't think that the humor of the Simpsons, and it's the 2%ers and such that make the show great, can transfer to the big screen, the movie will be awful and secure the death of our beloved Simpsons.

As a huge fan of The Simpsons,I am awaiting arrival on the movie, but I heard that production might not start until after the show's over, whenever that is.
It has been picked up for another 2 seasons and I'm still watching & laughing.Thank goodness for Matt Groening and company who put forth their countless &
tiredless effort to make a hit out of The Simpsons.

I think it's great that it's not "Rated R edgy". If it got slapped with an R rating then it would turn into another South Park-ish movie. Which was just dirty. It would turn our beloved Simpson family into a dirty foul-mouthed family. It would be crap.

And here is yet another huge fan of The Simpsons!! I've been watching since they first appeared on The Tracey Ullman show and I've never looked back, but I will admit that as the seasons have gone on, I don't find the humor in these newer episodes as hilarious as in, say, seasons 4 through, I'll give it till season 12. I hope it does well in the theaters and I shudder to think that it will be a flop, but if I had to put my money on it, I don't think it's going to do as well as producers hope. I'll consider going to see it, but I think I might just do better waiting till it comes out on DVD. No matter what, though, Homer is still the man!

Some folks seem to be under the impression that a movie has to be rated R to be good. Why? To give themselves validation that it's perfectly ok to behave like morons because movie characters behave that way? A recent poll found out that most people believe there is too much swearing already. Why should we add too it with more swearing in movies?

Please, please don't make the Simpsons R Rated. It would permanently cheapen it. Remember what Zebediah Springfield said: " A Noble Mind Embiggens Us All".

The past seasons havent been quite as good, save the renegade hilarious episode that somehow slips through the corporate cracks at FOX. I miss the old ones. However, a movie would be at least something new and different. The show has been in a stasis for the last 2 years or so and has lacked the quality it once had for many more. it's still better than anything on CBS.

My whole family is a fan of the Simpsons. I think a movie would be too much of a good thing. And an R rating would just cheapen it. I love them as they are!

You know a show is good when you've seein it so many times, can say the lines even before the characters say it,and still laugh. A Simpson movie will be a riot, even if it's not rated R.

Since I love the Simpsons no matter what their flaws or failings, just as I do the rest of my family, I can't believe some of you want to make them foul mouthed. Why would that be more entertaining? Don't we have all the other programs for that? Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the Simpsons have outlasted everyone and probably always will. What makes them so popular? It can't be the cursing. And how could a Simpsons movie be too much of a good thing? I for one, will go see the movie, and buy the DVD.

the simpsons as a movie is a series-killer. either you go r-rated and just add to what south park, family guy, adult swim, etc. are already doing, or you end up with a cheap story line with a made for family channel movie. What the producers could do, and best, would make these dvds that they are putting out with new scenes. They are already doing Simpson dvds, which are just a collection of 3-5 episodes with a semi-common theme. Put together some episodes and link them together with some changes or a new twist. think outside the box.
My favorite episode of the Simpsons after watching for 16 years, was the VH1 spoof of Behind the Laughter. I think it should have gone at least an hour. spend time on those projects and making them worthwhile, and forego a movie. What can the Simpsons do or be confronted with that an episode hasn't already done? A movie, it's story and it's text would have to be so ground-breaking as not to be a series-killer, that I'm afraid of the gamble of making a movie.

face it... South Park and Family Guy have taken over as far as the funniest cartoons go... I got sick of the Simpsons when I was 16, which was 7 years ago lol. R-rated or not, I am not looking forward to this... Instead I'm looking forward to the eventual end to the show and the birth of some new and funny show that will breathe fresh air into the adult cartoon scene like South Park and Family Guy did when they first came out... On a side note, I think a 2nd Beavis and Butt-head movie and/or the return of that show would be awesome.
