Magnum Casting Rumors That Rock
Filed under: Comedy, Drama, Casting, Mystery & Suspense, RumorMonger, Remakes and Sequels
OK, I'm going to say this up front, so no one goes
crazy with glee or fury at the news that's going to follow: This information comes from someone else's unnamed
"insider" source, so its veracity is tenuous at best. This "source" could be his crazy Uncle
Charlie, for all we know. (Of course, the fact that it could also be someone at Imagine is what makes all of us want so
badly to believe these things.) These are RUMORS, not facts. Got it? OK, good. Moving on.Rumor has it that two names are on the shortlist to star in the still-a-long-way-from-production Magnum PI movie: George Clooney and Vince Vaughn. Now, as you may have noticed, the women at Cinematical are rather huge lovers of the Clooney, so it's sort of a foregone conclusion that I'd be excited about him in pretty much any role. But I'm also a massive Magnum fan, and it seems like, if we can't have the original, Clooney would really be perfect. He can do the whole "cocky, good-looking man" thing in his sleep, but also has a very convincing serious side. Vaughn, on the other hand, would be a different Magnum entirely -- it seems obvious that, if they cast him, the movie will follow in the footsteps of Starsky & Hutch, taking the "We love this dude but man, ain't he silly?" approach.
Really, both men (if, again, they really are being considered) have their merits, it's just a question of what direction Imagine wants to go with their film: Hire Clooney if it's going to follow the tone of the series, and Vaughn if they prefer to mock the show (with love, of course).

George Clooney: Coolest White Man on the planet.
I hate the fact that Hollywood can't seem to come up with an original (or at least new) idea, but I'd be on board for a Clooney as Magnum flick.

There's only one Magnum, and his name is Selleck!

Not sure that I believe these rumors if only because they seem to be retreading a casting suggestion story I wrote up for IGN, naming both Clooney and Vaughn:

Well if they do us Clooney, I would rather them use Selleck, then use Selleck in a cameo as the Jack Lord character from Hawaii Five-O. Selleck tried for years to get Lord to be on his show and it would be a nice tirbute to both of them.

SELLECK. WTH?? Is he dead or something? Why go with anyone else?? He's still a good looking guy, I bet he could carry a serious Magnum movie.
If it's a comedy I'll skip the film entirely. If it's serious and doesn't have Don Belesario (sp?) directly involved I'll skip it. If it's serious, has Belesario and Selleck I won't miss it. Hell, I'll put the cash aside for a ticket the minute I hear that Selleck and Belesario are doing it.
What's next? Ben Stiller and Luke Wilson in a Quantum Leap movie?

Anyone other than Tom Selleck would do a complete disservice to the name Magnum – he is Magum! Anyway, he was arguably too young then thus rendering his services absolutely perfect now. Moreover, in order to have a quality ‘Nam flashback’, you’d need someone both of Selleck’s age and calibre!! If the idiot vision lacking producers plump for a younger so-called equivalent, what’s he going to have, depressing ‘Gulf 1’ flashbacks; please don’t remind us ‘peanut and jelly’ viewers about Iraq – no Sir!
This has the makings of a masterpiece; while at the same it has the makings of complete flop!
You have warned.
Hey, anyone know how I could be an extra?

Can't Hollywood come up with an original movie. I am so tired of the remakes and it seems all the remakes bomb... Doesn't any one have an imagination out there in la la land to come up with a good movie instead of remaking television shows and old movies. I like Dennis Quaid, but he seems to be King of the remake movies, DOA, Parent Trap, Yours, Mine and Ours, etc... Come on Hollywood, Tom Selleck is your man for Magnum. Lets not waste more money for a flop in the making.

Selleck is Magnum. Period. If it's not going to be Selleck, then don't bother making the film.

MAGNUM,P.I. without Tom Selleck is just not the same...Tom Selleck created the role and should finish the role in a movie....it is a dis-service to all the fans and all of us who continue to love the show plus its actors/creators to have anyone play Magnum other than Mr. Selleck. George Clooney is a BIG NAME but Tom has proven he can carry a motion picture. Why does the Hollywood community always want to ruin a good thing by doing a "remake" that would just fall flat without Tom Selleck....I speak for many that we as fans WANT TOM SELLECK and won't settle for less!!!

If Tom Selleck's not in the Magnum movie, I won't be going to see it and a lot of people I know will be staying home, too. What's wrong with Tom? Doesn't Magnum get older, too? George Clooney is too smug to play Magnum who was always good at laughing at himself. Can't see Clooney doing that. He takes himself much too seriously. I don't care how old Tom is, he's still sexy to me. He will always be the one and only Magnum.

Tom Selleck is Thomas Magnum...he is still alive and still handsome and must be used for the film. I will not go to see the movie otherwise.

I agree with most of the comments, if Tom Selleck is not going to play Magnum, then forget about the movie. He is Magnum. I find nothing appealing about either George Clooney or Vince Vaughn. Selleck, on the other other hand, still has it. He is still sexy after all these years.

There can be only ONE!!!! Tom Selleck. We have aged also don't forget. Besides, all these years we have wondered what Magnum would be like after all these years. Don't leave out that part of the story. Bring him back, let's find out what he has been up too. Tom can do it. There can be only ONE!!!!

There is no way any one but Tom Selleck can do Magnum P. I. Don't treat us like we are ignorant children who have never seen the man act. However, Selleck with Clooney would be a good duo. My wife and I loved T.C. and Higgie Baby as well as Zeus and Apollo, but for some reason we never really warmed up to Rick.

I agree.. Tom is the one and only Magnum! How can they think he is too old for the part but consider George Clooney? I guess it's the "box office" name and the success George has had recently. In my opinion, they would make a ton of money if they cast Tom. Fans of the show would flock to see this movie.

Clooney's too arrogant for magnum p.i... Vaughn would be ok, but the best choice is Matthew McConaughey.. He's cool, goodlooking, laid back, etc....

Tom Selleck is Magnum. Please don't go with anyone else. We'd love to see him age as we all have, and see how he is doing now. He is still handsome and sexy and Magnum!
