Buffy's Charisma Wants to be Wonder Woman
Filed under: Action, Casting, Fandom, Comic/Superhero/Geek
A few days ago, the increasingly scary Lindsay Lohan announced that
she'd like to play the title character in Joss Whedon's upcoming
Wonder Woman project. While this indubitably made a few of
you out there excited, most of us were on our knees, praying that any god who might listen would keep her far, far away
from the project. Recently, another actress expressed interest in the part - an this one is probably much more palatable
for the geek world. Charisma Carpenter, who played Cordelia Chase on
TV's Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel told TV Guide that she'd love to play the part. When TV
Guide suggested the match, Carpenter excitedly responded "I know! From your lips to God's ears... or Joss'.
"Regular readers know that I've never been an avid Buffy fan. I don't think it was a bad show by any means - I just never watched much of it. However, Carpenter is already leagues ahead in my mind based on the simple fact that she is not Lindsay Lohan. I don't know how talented she is - some of you who've seen her on TV should chime in here and let me know - but I suppose she does at least have the look for the part. And she's probably got a good angle, having worked with Joss for several years on his most beloved project.

CC would be a pretty good choice, although i think she would have been more suitable like 5 or so years ago.
Personally, i'd chose Morena Baccarin over any other known actress.

Carpenter would be a good choice, but I'd be surprised if Hollywood can cast worth a crap these days. It'll probably end up being Jessica Simpson.
I still think Charlize Theron should have been The Invisible Girl in the Fantastic Four movies.
And they wonder why the movie box office is in decline.

Charisma would be tons better than Lohan. I am still at a loss as to why anyone thinks Lohan is worth putting in a film...

Charisma is physically perfect for the role, but is too old for what Joss said the plot will be. Plus she is not exactly Meryl Streep either.
My choice - Scarlett Johansson, baby!!!

Hey, folks ... the character is called Wonder WOMAN!!! Lindsay Lohan's bony body would look ridiculous in the Wonder Woman costume. Anyone who has seen her in a bikini in "Veronica Mars" knows that Charisma has the right stuff in the costume-filling department. And she can definitely act ... she was my favorite in the Angel series. Hey, Joss ... it's a no-brainer.

I've been a fan of Charisma Carpenter from her first days on Buffy, and was (and am) very impressed by the range she showed from going from "ditz" to "dazzling" from Buffy to Angel. The character transformation bodes well for her if she is selected as the "new" Wonder Woman. Joss knows her talents and hopefully this will also edge the selection process in her favor.
She can act, she looks good in any state (or understated) of dress. I hope she gets it. The other "actresses" mentioned for the role are too young, too immature, and can't act themselves out of a paper bag.

I liked Lindsay Lohan in "Mean Girls" and the older Disney remakes she did like "Freaky Friday" and "The Parent Trap". However, if Joss Whedan chooses her for "Wonder Woman", I will never watch another film in the cinema for as long as I live in this state. If Joss doesn't want to use Catherine Zeta-Jones or Charisma Carpenter, then he had better go for some unknown woman, a woman mind you, not some bony post-anorexic boozed-up drug-addled so-called "teen queen". We need an actress who can act, act regally, and has some T&A to fill that bustier. And please, don't any say that they should give Scarlett Johansson a wig -- we need a natural brunette in the role.
"From your mouth to Joss' ears" indeed!

Charisma would be great, but I'm still campaigning for Estelle Getty to play Wonder Woman.

Charisma Carpenter is the ONLY choice in my eyes!
She is perfect for the part. She showed her stuff on ANGEL, if you take the show serious or not,
CC is the one for the part!

YES! This is what I was talking about- Charisma Carpenter is drop dead gorgeous and would fill the role of Wonder Woman very well. She has presence, she can play someone regal, she looked good wearing glasses in one episode of Angel and she's got the hair and body and face for it. Beautiful, beautiful woman. Oh, and Lynda Carter could so play her mother :)

I've been a big Buffy fan for many yrs and even Angel was worth watching when I looked back at it for a 2nd go-round! Charisma Carpenter is a truly awesome actress and I have seen her in more than just those hourly episodes! She was in a Lifetime made for television movie and she really showed her stuff!. She more than gets my vote to play WW! I'd pay to see her in that or any other project she would care to star in! She's truly wonderful and as far as WW is concerned, she really looks the part! What a beautiful actress she is! (and someone was right, Linda Carter could play her mom..hhahaha). Wake up Joss and sign her on the dotted line! She's more than got it as far as a lot of us voters are concerned!

Oh please no Lohan.. oh god no no no no no. Yes to CC but I'm not sure how it'd go off in the marketing world - "is her name big enough" type thing.. I don't agree with that but I'm sure people who only care about the money do.

Charisma ... hmm, Wonder Woman, she is. I'm sure she would make the Wonder Woman character more interesting. Wonder Woman has always been such a boring character for me, or perhaps has always been a poorly played/directed role. Mindless revelations and jumping around.
I hope that Joss Whedon has a larger vision than a low-grade B movie.
CC is more of an Emma Peel of the Avengers !!! CC's facial expressions and body language exude smart and brash control; with mischievious undertones. Her wit and body tell a tale symbiotic with the story. Yep, Emma Peel.
As for comic book heroines; maybe a female version of the Punisher. But realistically, comic books haven't portrayed women in a light suitable for the talent of CC.
I'm sure Joss Whedon is quite capable of something more original. A story line for instance that plays with contemporary mental challenges; a series could run for years and not repeat a topic.
For instance, our heroine writes a news column and parses (sorts and selects) her email with a smart software that pulls up unique cases (Dear Ed - the name of the software). CC immediately jumps on what would seem the popular decision about what to do. Each day she tells her readers what she's learned. Her perspective is shaped by acted observation with actual real research and statistics provided during the scene. Why shouldn't the public learn something while watching. Ultimately CC finds a solution much different than popular logic where even the bad guy benefits.
What is her superpower? Forcing herself to have a broad perspective and creative thought despite her cliche redneck childhood (provides lots of opportunity for those cheesecake moments while making the character worth watching over a long period of time.
I would like to have a female comic book heroine who is beautiful, sexy, and much more. CC could definitely be that new breed of character.
