A Shrek Spinoff - And Not for Donkey
Filed under: Action, Casting, Family Films, Newsstand, Dreamworks, Remakes and Sequels
Right from the start, let me assure you that this is
NOT an April Fool's joke, as much as you might want it to be: though Shrek
3 isn't even finished yet, things are already in motion for Shrek 4. Not only that, but there's also
going to be FIFTH film featuring characters from the Shrek series, this one called (Ready? No, you're not. You
could never be prepared for this.) Puss
in Boots: The Story of an Ogre Killer. Seriously, that's really happening. According to an interview Antonio Banderas gave MTV last week, the Puss in Boots spinoff will be
made between Shreks 3 and 4. Because apparently the world has an insatiable desire for all things
Shrek - damn us and our weakness for even vaguely clever animated humor. In addition to letting us know that we will never, ever be free of Shrek, Banderas also shared a little plot information on Shrek 4: apparently in that one he'll be voicing not only Puss in Boots, but also "his badass brother." Again, not a joke. What's his name going to be? Puss in Bowling Shoes? Puss the Gay Blade? (The latter, by the way, would totally get $10 from me - in case you're wondering, Dreamworks.)

Hardly a surprise. I've been reading about this being planned since before, or just slightly after, Shrek 2 was out.

I heard about the Puss n' Boots movie a long time ago but according to DreamWorks fan sites they aren't sure if this movie is going to happen but if it is the intention is for it to go straight to video so don't expect this movie to show up at a theater near you...

This is all GREAT! I love Shrek and the whole cast. These clever animated films are wonderful. I enjoy them very much and so does my whole family. We will most definitely see and purchase the whole Shrek series. Can't wait! DreamWorks ROCKS!!!

Shut your mouth, Puss ruled and you know it!!!
Though, if I had to choose another spinoff, make it Fairy Godmother, we need more Jennifer Saunders in the United States. And Dawn French as her apprentice, and/or Joanna Lumley as the Fairy Great-Godmother would be naturals.

Um who actually stayed awake for Shrek 2? Almost all sequels blow!!! And spin offs do almost equally as bad. My idea is stop making sequels for lame movies and actually make them for movies worth while... perhaps a Gone With The Wind sequel?!?!?!?!?!?!

Oh my gosh... ANOTHER!!!!! The first one was pretty good, and the second one was alright, but a 3rd, 4th and fifth one? Please.... It does get a little old after a while. I think the public would much prefer some new ideas. I mean how can you improve on the first storyline? Answer: you can't! (Admit it. The second one would have sucked if it wouldn't have been for the giant cookie.)The Shrek series is just going to become a computer generated fairytale verson of Seinfeld: a show about nothing.

Jillian, Shrek 2 was made by Puss and Fairy Godmother. Then again I A) am a feline fan and B) A fan of the absolutely fabulous Jennifer Saunders.
Steph, GWTW2? Please don't give 'em any ideas...(did you know that had Bennifer not split, we would have seen the raping of Casablanca?!!?)

Shrek is a terrible movie and didn't even deserve a sequel. Who in the world still cares about this inane junk. There's hardly a witty bit in the whole lot. Are a bunch of 10 year olds running Hollywood? The writing is complete garbage and the humour is ridiculously low brow. I suppose if I had never had a formal education I may have thought it was smart or funny.

Hey Steph! They actualy did make a sequel to Gone With The Wind, A terrible CBS mini series called Scarlett it aired in the mid 90's. Any Shrek sequel would be better than that disaster of a sequel. There was and is no one who could ever replace Vivian Leigh and Clark Gable as Scarlett and Rhett.

I think u jason are very cinical. The movie is made both for kids and adults, its called a "Family Movie" something u obviously never had a good family with values. Its good to see a movie that doesnt have all the violence and sex like most of the garbage in todays movie world. Movies use to be about family, or goodness, now its all about sex, violence, and which movie studio can make the most money. Just look at Basic Instinct 2, they barly made enough over the weekend to cover the cost of production, and Ice Age 2 took home a huge amount of money. I think that movie studios are actually smartening up a bit, family is in and sex and violence is out.

Ok everybody, I saw Shrek 1 and Shrek 2 and I was very impressed with both of them. From the humor in Shrek 1, all the way to the heart warming ending of of Shrek 2, it is ALL good! I mean let's get real here, we are talking DREAMWORKS here. When it comes to creativity, these guys are the best! So I have no doubt of the outcomes of the empending sequels. they are destines to be just as splendid, if not more!

Working in H-Wood and grinding out crap for (maybe) human consumption, I am personally expecting a REMAKE of some old classic - like "Shrek meets Bambi" or " Snow White and the Seven Shreks", etc. etc. since Movie execs are loathe to spend money on something without a proven "track record" - see "King Kong" and "Superman" for hints - hey, maybe something like- "Citizen Shrek" or "the Third Ogre?" (sorry, Orson).

I see both good & bad things about making more Shrek movies. The first one was good but the second only half that. Surely the rest will get more & more boring. But, I have a 7 year old & I'd rather her watch these or other kids movies than most of the crap that's on TV. I mean, COME ON, how many Sponge Bob reruns can one sit through!? HAHA! Pixar has done really well also. It's really nice they are making much more movies that are suitable for our little ones. And movie night means you no longer have to leave your child with a sitter.

I have both Shrek 1 & 2 and love every bit of it. I think that Shrek is one of the few good movies that the sequels are just as good as the first. Shrek is one of the greatest animation movies out.
