Cinematical's Birthday Contest: You Pick the Winner!

For our birthday, we asked you to send us pictures of your film-related collections, and we got some truly geekerific entries -- so many that we just can't choose a winner. Besides, we know how much our readers like to give us their opinions, and you're sure to have one about some of these.

The entries are listed in no particular order after the jump. You have until Tuesday, April 11 at 11:59EST to vote in the comments for your favorite. The entry with the most votes will get the $200 Amazon gift certificate, and three runners-up will get one of our spectacular, rare, and highly desirable Cinematical tshirts. ONE VOTE per person/email address (and yes, we will check and eliminate dupes, this isn't American Idol here). Contestants, you can, however, get all your friends and relations to come and vote for you, so point 'em this way.

Entries below the fold, check out our readers' spectacular odes to movie geekdom.

Contestant #1 - Adam - The walls of Adam's college apartment are covered with movie memorabilia - posters, records, and, for added movie geek bonus points -- laser discs!

Contestant #2 - Karl  - Karl made us a special Simpson's birthday gift. Our highly trained Seattle office intern staff (aka my four younger kids) gave a big thumbs up to the idea of mac and cheese topped with a brownie. Thanks for that, Karl.

Contestant #3 - Bob - Look closely at Bob's shelves, and you'll spot all kinds of nifty movie stuff: Star Wars Pez, Burger King Star Wars toys, 16mm film, a genuine scene clapper, more laser discs!, DVDs, books on movies, and VHS tapes including Scorsese's first film, Who's That Knocking At Your Door?

Contestant #4 - Trayah - Here's what Trayah has to say about her entry: I recently went to NY and my favourite movie of all time is Breakfast at Tiffany's. I woke up one morning very early and dragged my friend (read literally dragged a protesting, grumpy friend) to Tiffany's. I with my hair just right, sunglasses, black dress and breakfast and in hand, I had her take numerous photos as I stood outside Tiffany's and tried to recreate the opening scene of the movie. Much to my GREAT disappointment, the photo of the bunch that only turned out was this one! Grrrr. Grumpy unaccommodating friends suck!

Contestant #5 - Chris H.   - Chris has a nice little collection of movie stuff. I spy with my little eye at ET doll (hey, we have one of those at my house!) and ... is that a vintage Bambi LP? I have one of those somewhere too! And I thin I spy some Pez action going on there too.

Contestant #6 - Don - Don composed a story to go along with his entry:  We had nice weather here for the first time in a little while, so I went outside to play with my inflatable Bruce Almighty flying disc.  Since it is less fun to do this sober, I brought along my Love Actually champagne glass full of bubbly.  Careful observers noted that this was very wuss-like, so I cracked open bottle of tequila and started doing shots with my Team America shot glass.  This required a little bit of concentration, which took me away from my other task -- the flying disc.  I took the flying disc to the forehead (it does say "take one for the team" on the other side) and it bounced under a shrubbery.  I looked for it for a few moments, but it was starting to get dark out and my light source was fading.  Luckily I had my Signs mini mag flashlight in my pocket.  Found it!

The onset of darkness usually also means the return of winter in the Canadian spring.  Brrr!  Good thing I also had my The Day After Tomorrow touque handy. After all, you do lose most of your body heat through your head. My head was warmer, but it got too chilly for flying discs. We decided to move indoors and play cards.  I grabbed  my How to lose a Guy in 10 Days deck of cards.  We played for money so I'd have to crack open my change jar.  It was locked, and somebody moved the key from my 'MGM' key ring.  It was on my Terminator 3 key ring ... good.  I returned to the card table with my money to find that everybody else wanted to play President (aka A@#hole).  I no longer needed money, but the new game required more cards.  I had two Alice in Wonderland decks that did the trick.  Its a good thing we switched games too -- scoring would have been difficult.  I have no paper, but I do have How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and Wonder Boys pens.  I also have an American Wedding magnetic white board with no dry erase marker.

That was my day.  Thanks for reading!

Contestant #7 - John B. - When John's lonely for company, he has Kirk and Spock to hang out with. Sadly, he doesn't have Lt. Uhuru there to do her fan dance when things get dull, but I hear once Spock gets loosened up with a few tequila shooters, he gets pretty wild.

Contestant #8 - Jospeh  - Joseph sent us a lot of pics; six of them are below. He has a LOT of stuff - I want that Pulp Fiction tshirt, bad.

Contestant #9 - Josh - Josh sent us a couple shots of his collection, which includes the popular Yoda and Darth Vader Pez dispenser.  Somehow, being on a Pez dispenser makes Darth Vader seem much less intimidating.

Contestant #10 - Julie - Julie sent us a pic of a button of her fave film, Lost in Translation. Sorry, guys, it doesn't have that opening shot of Scarlett Johannson's butt on it, but it's still pretty cool.

Contestant #11 -  "Hey" - Did someone say Mayhew? I thought so. Contestant 11, who goes by the mysterious moniker of "Hey", sent us a pic of himself with the man behind Chewbacca. May the force be with you both.

Contestant #12 - Missy - Missy keeps her collectibles at work, where she poses them in various configurations and dresses them for the holidays. Check out the orchestra for Christmas, and the little green origami paper hats for St. Patrick's Day. If I'd had a collection like that when I worked for (major corporation), I'd have arranged them in battles -- software team versus marketing guys -- and let the bloodshed begin.

Contestant # 13 - Pam - Pam sent us a pic of her favorite bit of memorabilia - The Rifleman himself, Chuck Connors.

Contestant #14 -  Nathan - What's that a picture of, you ask? Oh, just Nathan's secret hidden door which hides his DVD closet. But that's not all. Nathan went beyond our call for mere pictures, and sent us a link to a video tour of his lair of geekdom, including a light saber battle. Okay, he didn't technically make the video just for us, but it's still pretty cool. Check it out Nathan's video entry.

Contestant #15 - Stephen - And last, but certainly not least, we have Stephen's entry, in his own words: Here you go - a tribute to my geekery. Totally unposed photo of just one of my shelves in my office, comprised of work materials and a hodge podge of paraphanalia. From the left to right:

Grendel magnet in box
Bat-Bat toy from Wedny's Mighty Mouse promotion circa 1988
Wolverine Pez
Star Wars Lego figure
Captain America psuedo-Pez that shoots discs of candy down your throat
Cheesy Japanese containers
Spider-Man juice container (full)
Half a Lego guy I rescued from the gutter
Coca-Cola glass bottle
Jigglypuff tape dispenser (part of a set)
Beauty and the Beast X-mas ornament
Hulk hands
Original Phil Jimenez art from "The Invisibles"

And that's just the one shelf....

There they are, folks. Your 15 contestants. Vote for your favorite in the comments, and thanks to everyone who took the time to enter!
