More on 24: The Movie

The last time we checked in on 24: The
Movie, rumor had it that Kiefer Sutherland had potentially
signed on to three
24-related films. Not for nothing, but even for you hardcore Jack Baur fans, I imagine that's a bit too
much. I mean, how many times can one guy save the world? I'm still impressed at how many times Pauly Shore managed to do it.
Supposedly, Joel Surrow, creator and executive producer of the television show, was recently a guest on the Rush Limbaugh program and, apparently, the one person who listens dished more dirt on the film version. It looks like the 24 movie will not be filmed until the summer of 2007, with a release date to fall somewhere inside the summer of 2008. I'd expect the television part to end in superb cliffhanger fashion sometime before production begins, with just enough time to get folks pumped up for the big screen return.
The other information to come out of the interview surrounded the film's time-line. While the story will still carry the same 24-hour format, it will consist of three 40-minute real-time parts in order to allow its hero to travel great distances. Oh yeah, Jack's going global baby! Yeah, because throwing this guy in rush hour traffic on a trip to the airport is an entire hour and a half right there.

Frankly, 24 was a concept good enough for one maybe two "bad days" before it jumped the shark as the show has shown. The writers have admitted that they jettison realism in favor of drama all the time. Thus, you have Jack becoming a superman inmune to beatings, shocks and explosions, all sorts of logical gaffes and weird coincidences, not to mention technological impossibilities (even if you accept for futuristic gadgets not presently available).
After the first 24 they should have switched the name to "21" as in 21 days because that's how much action there is in regular day of 24. With the action taking place over three weeks all of the impossible trips that last 5 minutes to everywhere (unless it's an emergency, in which case they say it'll take us 20) would not be portrayed so unbelievably. We could then also believe that Jack and his peers have all that boundless energy and time to heal and that both bad guys and good guys have enough time to come up with contingency and counter-contingency plans instead of coming up with plans and immunity agreements written, signed and reviewed in 4 minutes.

Uh, last time the ratings came out, Rush Limbaugh had the most listeners in the country.
Thanks for keeping this non-partisan.

I thought the first two seasons of 24 were a bit poor with the writers having problems filling the time with subplots(insert mountain lion joke here). I've really enjoyed the last three seasons and I think doing a trilogy of films would be great(some competition for Jason Bourne).
He wouldn't have to "save the world" each time he could just rescue one person who's been kidnapped or something

Wow. A post totally cribbed from my comments. I hope I scored some significant stars for the contribution.
Meanwhile, did anyone VERIFY my post, or are we just taking it on blind faith that I was right?
And, yeah I'd wager that I'm not the only TV Squad reader who heard the interview. Wikipedia says Rush's audience is somewhere between 14 and 20 million. How many hits does this site get on an average day?

Tim, for a minute there I had this "What the hell is he talking about?" feeling, until I scrolled through the Squad and saw your comment.
However, the person I was referring to was the woman quoted in the moviehole article linked to in this post. Yeah, so you're the second person to have heard it. Cool.

It's just a little funny snubbing the overlappers between Rush and 24 that read here, but hey, whatever.
It also wouldn't surprise most Rush listeners, or people willing to acknowledge they exist, that Surnow would be announcing things on his show-- a ton of the people I know that started loving 24 early in the 4th season and buying DVDs to catch up heard about it after Rush went on set with some other talk guys, and they haven't shut up about it since, they love it. Rush, Hannity, David Horowitz, and some other guys, they bought the DVDs, talked it up every week before and after.
Anyway, yeah, some of us listen to Rush AND watch TV, imagine that, so maybe save some of the snark.

I'm proud to say that I am a fan of Rush, he is informative , keeps you alert to all the dealings going on around us all, be they good or bad, he lets you decide. Really the Rush Limbaugh story is the next big movie to appear on the big screen, this could be an offset of 24
