Terri Schiavo: The Movie
Filed under: Drama, Deals, Newsstand, Politics
Variety reports this morning that a team of four
producers has picked up the rights to Terri:
the Truth, Michael Schiavo's new book about his relationship with his wife, and his battle to fulfill what he
said was her wish to die. Wow -- how can studios possibly say no to this one? The producers, including Mike
Farrell (who was involved with the public battle, and argued for Schiavo's right to die) and Lawrence
Bender, aren't yet sure if their film will be made for television or the big screen; a decision seems dependent on
which industry shows interest in the project.According to Marvin Minoff, Farrell's partner and another of the producers, "The story is almost Shakespearean in the warring of the families and the great love story between the [couple] ... It starts off so beautifully and then ends so chaotically." Well sure, that's one way of looking at it. Another way is that it's some people trying to make a buck off of a very personal tragedy; no matter what side of the issue you come down on, it's hard to argue that the situation was not a horrible one for everyone involved. While it's hard to say that Schiavo is being taken advantage of here, since one assumes he was involved in selling the rights, but how could this movie possible be done in a way that's not tasteless? Just thinking about the trailer gives me the willies.

Why is this such a bad idea. Unfortunately, someone always has to be the first. Terri's struggle is something that the rest of us can learn from. If this movie is made well, it can show both sides of the issue and make Terri's struggle worth while.

If Michael Schiavo makes any more money off of his poor wife's tragedy, then this world really sucks. Its bad enough she suffered so much at the end. Do they really have to add insult to injury by making money off of her story too?

i believe they should make this movie, so people can see how important it is to have a living will. something documented so that god forbid something like that happens to them they're wishes will be carried out.... that was an awful thing that happened to terri, but maybe some good can come from that poor woman's suffering... god bless her family they really went through hell!!!!

i agree that it would be a shame for mike schiavo to make money off of the movie, but i believe that this story needs to be told..... hopefully he'd donate the money to charity since he's always saying he's not in it for the money

Michael Schiavo should have to explain why the judge went so far as to order that if ANYONE attempted to give Terri anything by mouth they would immediatley be arrested...what were they afraid of...could Terri eat and take sufficient nourishment orally as several of her nurse/caretakers had testified at one time of another that she would not have needed the feeding tube and therefore she could have lived without it...it just seems very strange that a court would go so far out on as to refuse to allow anything to be placed in Terri's mouth...what were they afraid of...she might get aspiration pneumonia and die...they were killing her by removing the feeding tube...

I WOULD NEVER SPEND MONEY TO GO WATCH A MOVIE AND PUT EVEN MORE MONEY INTO THE ALREADY SELFISH POCKETS OF MICHAEL SCHIAVO. HE MURDERED THIS LADY THE NIGHT HE PUT HER IN THE HOSPITAL, NOT THE DAY HER FEEDING TUBE WAS REMOVED. HE'S THE REASON SHE HAD TO GO TO THE HOSPTIAL ANYWAY. I'VE NEVER BELIEVED HIS STORY ABOUT HIM WAKING UP AND HEARING A THUMP. THAT'S HOGWASH.

The right to die with dignity is what Terry Schiavo wanted. Why have someone you love in a bed like a vegetable, why torture the family and people who loved her. It is very hard to make a decision but please think that her husband wanted to end her suffering and the family. She is another angel in the Lords garden.

I do not feel that he is making money for himself. I'm in hopes it will help people to understand put it in writting. Some people can speak of what they want their loved one to do. BUT put it in writting. No age limit on when this will happen to you. It is sad, but you and your loved one may find yopurself in the same boat.I hope not. But they didnot think so eighter.Would u wnt to live this way. I don't

It's comments like those from doreen that make this movie so necessary. The world doesn't suck when we know all sides of the story. The most vocal people associated with this issue are only telling half the story. Don't judge until you hear both sides...in fact, don't judge at all.

I AM THE FATHER OF TWO SONS EACH AFFLICTED WITH DUCHENNE MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY...ONE SON PASSED AWAY YEARS AGO AND ONE IS ON A VENTILATOR WITH A TRACHE FOR ALMOST 25 YEARS.THE JOY MY SONS HAVE GIVEN ME THROUGHOUT THE YEARS IS BEYOND WORDS...HOWEVER,MR SCHIAVO HAS THE RIGHT TO DO WHATEVER HE WISHES....MANY PEOPLE IN OUR RESPECTIVE POSITIONS HANDLE THINGS DIFFERENTLY..HE IN HIS AND I IN MINE..LET S NOT BE CRITICAL OF MR.SCHIAVO...AS NONE OF US ARE IN HIS POSITION AND DO NOT KNOW WHAT HE HAS GONE THROUGH OR WHAT HE FEELS,IF THIS IS THE WAY HE CHOSES TO HANDLE THIS MATTER LET IT BE, I FOLLOWED THE CASE CLOSELY AND KNOW THAT I WOULD HAVE HANDLED IT DIFFERENTLY...IF HE WISHES TO TELL HIS STORY AND THE STORY HAS THE BENEFIT TO US WHO MAY HAVE A NEED TO UNDERSTAND THEN MAYBE TERRY WANTED IT THAT WAY....NO ONE IS A WINNER HERE WE ALL LOSE SOMETHING...

The woman, Terri, is dead! Let her rest in peace. Some people are just morbid and want to keep on stirring things up forever.

Has any one ever seen the films of Terri while she was being visited by her family? I did, and I felt she responded to her fathers words. She got really excited! She was not totally brain dead. I also believe that her husband was having this affair long before Terri wound up in this condition. I believe he did this to her to get her out of the way. Now he wants to make more money off of her suffering. He will truly rott in hell for murdering his wife. Terri reminded me of a person who didn't care about what condition she was in but, still wanted to live as she enjoyed life just that much..........

I don't think I can stomach much more of Michael Schiavo! How dare he, yet again, try to make money off of the murder of his wife! Terri was disabled, not brain dead!! Who will be starved to death next, and who will decide who's life is worth living-a judge? People better wake up fast to the reality of this agenda! I also can't imagine putting Terri's parents and family through anymore pain.

I despise anyone who makes money off the misery of others AND THAT INCLUDES Mike Farrell. Strange how those who disagree with allowing Terri to live say WE only have half the story.. haha. Easy for YOU to say, Joker. I now know two men who've gotten away with murder.. one white ~ one black.

the right to die-I agree-then do it in writing...if not-then do not say when and if anyone should die! he was selfish enough to stay hanging on, while whoring around with another woman and had kids---oh, he loves her huh?

It seems I remember Mr. Schiavo refusing the media access to Terri's room because he SUPPOSEDLY wanted to protect her privacy. Now he wants to sell her story for a movie deal? Something is not right with this picture.

Tell Terri's story...the one where she is alive, being young, having fun, in love....laughing...not that God awful picture her parents kept putting up..
if she knew about that she would have really been upset!!
This movie would show people how important it is to have a Living Will...no battles that way.
Michael Schaivo is not at fault for what happened to his wife...give the guy a break ...I don't want to see his story though...i want to see terri's alive story.
