Robin Williams Wants to be The Joker
Filed under: Action, Casting, Fandom, Comic/Superhero/Geek, Remakes and Sequels
Here's a weird one for the ever-growing Batman sequel
casting rumor mill -- although you can likely rest assured this one will remain safely in the realms of hypothetical.
In a recent interview with Latino Review, none other than Robin Williams expressed his interest in playing the Joker; albeit it in
an off-handed, joking (sorry) manner. Towards the end of the interview, Williams was asked if he'd like to work with Chris Nolan (Batman director) again. Williams responded in the
affirmative, and then answered the follow up question of taking the role of the Joker with a resounding "Oh God
yeah!"Memory serving, good old Rob was actually considered for the role last time around, when he was young enough to pull off the part. I'm not really a huge Robin Williams fan, but I think it's fantastic he's so positive about the film in general. It'll certainly be interesting to finally learn who is really going to land this role.

If only this was not a rumor. The joker is a maniac personality and Robin Williams is a perfect fit. Robin Williams has experience in playing psychopaths (One Hour Photo) and I have faith that he'll bring the Joker the over-the-top performance because the Joker himself is over-the-top.

While I agree with Erik Call that he really would pull off the maniacal personality well, I think I could see them going for someone younger.

and Jack was young playing against Keaton?
I'm betting he was older than Robin is now. although no I don't like him in the roll either. I think someone like the southern dude from prison break would work.

I can easily see Robin Williams in this role. I'd love to see him try it. He can pull off both off-the -wall clown and off-the-wall scary nutjob equally well. I can't see him going the Jim Carrey/Riddler route, nor do I believe that Chris Nolan would let him.

Two words. No, two letters. RV.
Better they should dig up Cesar Romero's cadaver than to have Robin WIlliams doing it.

DT, I agree with you that the Keaton/Nicholson age difference was wide. The feeling I get, though, is that the new series has a younger, (forgive me for using) "hipper" feel to them which may involve someone who can play Joker as dark and creepy and a little less nutty while being somewhere around say 15 years Williams's junior.

Robin Williams already IS the Joker! He would be perfect. And since his alter ego killed Bruce Wayne's parents, he must be much older than Batman, as Wayne was just a child.

Dane Cook should play the Joker next time, He's young enough and definately psychotic enough to pull it off.

Only Williams can pull this off as the Joker and bring a whole new light to the character as he has done so many times. The only other character could be Two-face. I know Williams can play a diobolical, twisted, psychotic and just plan insane role!

Robin Williams' magic comes from some twisted perspective of the world. This gives him the perfect qualities to play the all time twisted villain...Robin and the Joker..one in the same!

Robin Williams as THE Joker? hmm....and yes if you do follow the ACTUAL Batman history....Jack Wild(??) did kill Bruce Wayne's parents....meaning he was at least 10 years older than Bruce at the time...and considering that i think Robin could pull it off...heck He's already there!!..at least he'd be playing himself...god i hope he waxes....

Geesh I like Mr. Williams but they will have to pick a strong personality to top Mr. Nicholson. I guess Robin could do that. But dont let him rant on and on while the caped crusader stands there with his arms crossed while Robin does his act. Mr. Williams doesnt do well when hes stuck with a script.

When i think perfect Joker, 2 names come to mind, Robin Williams and Dane Cook. Both would play a crazy Joker. I am more likely to side with robin williams because he has had a lot more acting experiance than Dane.

I dunno, what would the title be? If they call it "Batman and Robin," they'll think Joel Schumacher is directing again ;-)
