Star Trek Not Dead Yet?

Remember the "OMG NEW STAR TREK" versus "Star Trek is on the trash heap
of history" rumor debate flying back and forth a few months ago? Suggestions on the possible plot of a theoretical
new Trek movie flew fast and loose, and denials of particular plots, new movies in general, and the entire
existence of the Star Trek franchise came almost as quickly. Eventually the dust settled and we learned, well,
mostly that the people in charge just aren't sure they feel comfortable with a new Trek flick. And so the hopes
of many a dedicated fan were dashed. As it turns out, a pretty solid plan was in place for a new Star Trek installment, according to its writer Erik Jendresen. Jendresen has recently said he did indeed complete a draft of a film called Star Trek: The Beginning, which would "take place between the end of the series and the original adventures. He says the idea was being positioned for a possible trilogy, and would in some large part center around the Romulan Wars from Trek mythology." However, a power shift at Paramount apparently left the project without many supporters, and it now dwells in the land of the unknown.

A feature film might be their best bet. On a weekly basis, Star Trek got too repetitive and it will be awhile before they can find a way to redo it well for TV and make it fresh again. At it's best, the show stood for optimism, human (or alien) values, and a good dash of adventure. If they do it right, it could be reinvented once again as the thinking man's Star Wars.

always thought the best new Star trek could have been the time travelling ship that the second seven of nine came from in the Voyager series. imagine what time goofs they would have to correct and the time causal loops they could get caught in! Are you listenning Paramount?

Star Trek Enterprise was an incredible show. The only problem was it was aimed solely at the hardcore fan. If you were a part time watcher or if it you had never watched star trek there would be allot info you just wouldn't catch, or think is relevant. Thus making it difficult to gain new ratings. Please don't think i'm just talking about Enterprise here because I'm going somewhere with this. In the 4th season of Enterprise, there were many 2 or even 3 part eppisodes and if you missed any you would be lost...Again making hard to gain new ratings and keep the ratings they had.
As much as we all would love another star trek series or movie it is just not the time. Nemesis did horribly at the box office, and Enterprise was cancleled... Very strong indicators that something has gone sour...Although I loved both projects.
So in my opinion in order to keep Star Trek alive the producers should take break for a couple of years and then create a new series that would be available as an HBO special(i.e. Sapranos). This would illiminate the commitment of getting a high enough rating to keep a certain TV slot, and allowing writers and producers to step over lines they couldn't have before under normal TV broadcast standards(making it unique and fresh compared to shows in the past)
Did you know that the fans of Enterprise raised Millions of dollars after the show was cancelled in hopes of a fith season??? There is a strong demand for Star Trek, I wouldn't be too worried about going away anytime soon.

You can look at Star Trek as an addictive drug.. Seriously take it into consideration.
In the past 18 years there has been a Star Trek series running. from 1987-2005 we have had a new episode every week, some times two eppisodes if two series were running simultaneously. There were also 6 movies in this 18 year span and 4 movies before it.
We grew dependant on Star Trek like a crack head loves his crack. The strange thing is we never even realized it because it has always been there, and ofcourse its not a bad thing. Now we've been forced to go cold turkey.
We need to relieve ourselves of this burden, take a step back , and take a deep breath....
Then say around 2008-2009... They will give us our fix with a new series and movie and it will be like the first time all over again.

Another "in the past" version??? Come on.. just continue on after Deep Space Nine.. What we trekkies really want is more klingons, romulans, and jem'hadar, not to mention pajama-esque uniforms and a place for the Head Counselor at the left hand of the captain (how 80's!)

Enterprise sucked. Nemesis was the worst Star Trek movie of all time, by a large margin. These are the facts. Enterprise could, maybe, compare to the worst moments on Voyager, but the best moments on Voyager far surpassed the best Enterprise could ever achieve (and this isn't saying much). They should have looked at Bakula's screen tests, and said, "It's nice seeing you. Don't call us, we'll call you" He was not captain material here. He was absolutely horrible!!! And I liked him on Quantum Leap, so I don't know what happened, but he sucked!!!!
Star Trek needs a break; time for the memories of past dreck to fade.

Enterprise did not suck... are you crazy. You Enterprise bashers never even gave it chance so don't even try to judge it. Season 4 was arguably one of the best seasons of all the Star Treks.
Also When TIVO(TV recording device) was realeased Enterprise became the most illegally downloaded show on the planet... To me that sounds like there are allot of people all over the world who dissaggree with you. This is the main reason the show was cancelled.. Not enough ratings due to because of piracy

I hate all of these people who say Voyager and Enterprise sucked. If you think they suck, you are not true fans of the franchise and do not hold the right to say they have betrayed you.
I own every season for every series on DVD and each series is adding to the Star Trek Time Line and making all of the series better as a whole. Most series will take refrences from other series, and these eppisodes will give you more information into a charecter, an eppisode, or a time period(making the Star Trek Time Line full and connected through out the 5 Series)
Enterprise now is getting huge raitings on the re-runs. This is the exact same thing that happened to The Original Series. They started to gain raitings years after they were cancelled and it turned into the franchise it is today...
Seriously those of you who hate Enterprise take the time to watch a season from start to end and then judge it.

Enterprise was bland for most of its run. First couple of episodes were good. 4th season was brilliant. Bland interchangable characters do not make for good TV. This rests squarely with the producers. People were screaming that Brannon and Braga were destroying the show, but paramount didn't listen. Finally the bring Manny Coto in as co-producer for season 4 and look at the difference.
Stop excusing terrible creative decisions as a show needing a rest.
Did you even see Threshold, a blatant rip-off of the British sci-fi series Invasion: Earth? From the first episode it needed a rest.

Uhm, isn't ownership of the *Star Trek* franchise now a problem? Last time I heard, with the splitting of Viacom and CBS into separate companies, the ownership of Trek went to CBS. Maybe that is just with television programming, with Viacom's Paramount studio holding motion picture rights.
Either way, it could become quite a nuisance.
Manny Coto helmed *Enterprise* rocked. His writing brought the series up to the levels it should have started with, and the cast shined too. But it was too late in the eyes of the studio executives.
Speaking of British scifi, *Doctor Who* rocks... So you better be tuning in to the SciFi Channel at 9pm on Fridays here in the States to give it the ratings it deserves...and if you are recording it with your TiVo, make sure you set up a Season Pass and have your aggregate viewing data enabled.
Death to the Nielsens!

Well I heard that Star Trek is back on with a sequel about Kirk and Spock at the Academy together. Once again back in time. Going back in time with Star Trek always brings up hesitations. It does not seem to be the best formula for success as shown by the recent show's cancellation. However, the key to giving great Startrek is in the characters and their relationships. This was Rodenberry's gift. The twinkle in the eye, the joke back and forth, the obvious prejudice but admiration toward one another, the compassion in the midst of danger, the hard exterior but underlying compassion of the characters to one another, the human flaws, the teamwork being the difference between success and failure of the mission, the humor, the slanted eye, the grumpy country doctor, the tenacious engineer, the swashbuckling helmsman, the patriotic Russian navigator, the smiles and eyebrows behind everyone's back, the hidden wisdoms, and the ultimate captain and hero, the Errol Flynn of outer space Captain Kirk, and the positive message the hope for life that comes with faith, grace and luck born of deep friendships. My biggest question would be,,, are modern actors capable of complex character roles? How can you create a teamwork of chemistry if there are too many egos.
Anyway, I'm thrilled their going to give it a try. If they need any advice I hope they call me.

If you think Voyager is better then TNG, then you've got to be on something. TNG was the best. Hands down. Picard, Riker, Data, Worf, LaForge i mean c'mon!! The entire cast of TNG was absolutely fantastic. They played their characters to the fullest and with all their heart. Well ok... maybe with the exception of Troi, but she was hot and had big tits so it was perfect. Voyager is great once you get used to Tuvok(He ended up being one of my favorites) and start feeling sorry for Neelix rather than be annoyed with him. Kes, coulda done without her. Seven, coulda done with her sooner! Janeway! Phenomenal! Had to get used to the woman captain thing, but she surpassed my expectations by 20000 lightyears. Chakotay was cool but definitely not Riker. I mean the whole Seven and Chakotay romance??? What the hell was that all about??? Seven was into me the entire time! Tom Paris! I liked the guy. I'd have a beer with him and B'Elana . B'Elana was cool too. Especially in seasons 1-3 where she was the attractive one. Harry Kim, the sappy chinese guy, but you had to admire his character. The acting was kinda transparent at times though. And then came Seven (significant?)! The Data of Voyager! Played her character really well. Not as well as Brent Spiner played Data(My favorite star trek character of all time) but you could definitely tell it was a difficult role. Enough rambling...the point is that if i see either one on tv, I'll sit down and watch it through.
But whats the number 1 Star Trek of all time? Ding Ding Ding! Our Survey Says: Star Trek:The Next Generation. I grew up on it and its easily my most memorable. Also think of the actors and actresses from TNG. You see all of them on tv or movies almost regularly. Anyways, I'm done. Hope you enjoyed my input.
