Official Clerks II Trailer
Filed under: Comedy, Fandom, Movie Marketing, Kevin Smith, Remakes and Sequels
Word on the street is that the trailer for
Clerks II (meaning the
real, official one, not the "Woo hoo, swearing!" one that showed up on the movie's website a few weeks ago)
is showing before Scary Movie 4, so most of you probably saw it this weekend. If, however, you happen to be
one of the 16 people who didn't shell out for the movie, the trailer is now up at You Tube, and it's actually sort of ...
charming. Whoa. Mostly missing is the self-congratulatory in-joke stuff that seems to have dominated the movie's
promotional materials to this point, and it's been replaced by cleverness, a bit of self-effacing humor, and an
adorable Rosario Dawson. What's not to like? The movie is due out August 18.

I was nervous about this until I saw the official trailer (God help me, a friend of mine dragged me to Scary Movie 4 this weekend). I'm definitely looking forward to it now. It's funny, though, because it seemed like the Silence of the Lambs gag sold the audience I was with on it. That got the biggest laugh which makes me wonder if the kids today are that film savvy or are there more mid-20-somethings and up going to see movies like SM4 that are being aimed at the teen market? Odd.
I can understand the Kevin Smith backlash to a degree but dammit, I think he's funny, and I know very well that people wouldn't hate him as much as they do if it wasn't for assholes like me who spent the whole of the mid-late 90s telling them that Clerks and Mallrats were the funniest movies ever.

Yes! Finally, something to mask the fact that his last movie was Jersey Girl. Ick, I feel dirty just bringing that up.
That Buffalo Bill gag was awesome.

I too saw the trailer..and I laughed maniacally out loud at the Silence of the Lambs bit..(hee hee..just thinking of it..sorry..)I wonder though, was I the only one shocked at Mewes' appearance? I've heard rumors of his heroin addiction-but I was still taken aback..sigh...I'm glad he's back for another go-round..I WILL see this film!

Go read silentbobspeaks.com. Kevin smith is writing a multi part blog entry detailing mewes' drug use. Mewes has been clean for 3 years this month, so likely his appearance is more due to the fact that he is sober nowadays.
