Saw 3 Bites
Filed under: Horror, Thrillers, Lionsgate Films, Remakes and Sequels
Here's what we know already: Darren Lynn Bousman, the young filmmaker who cut his teeth on Saw 2, will be returning to direct Saw 3, which will arrive in theaters this October. Already
signed to return are writer/producers James Wan & Leigh Whannell, and actors Tobin Bell, Shawnee Smith, and Donnie
Wahlberg. And today JoBlo treats us to a few more Saw-bits, none of which are all that dazzling, but they're intreresting enough if you're a big geeky fan of the Saw series -- like I so definitely am. Looks like Saw 3 is scheduled to begin production in Toronto on May 1st, and the casting directors are presently on the hunt for "Lynn, a married mother in her late 30s who is kidnapped by Jigsaw" and "Jeff, a dad who has never recovered fully after his son died. It was an accident but he's never been able to forgive himself."
Seems the producers are looking for "name actors" for these roles -- but ones who (obviously) don't already have a gig lined up for May. More details as they become available.

So, what is it about the series that makes you a fan? Was the second movie better than the first one?
I honestly have never met anyone over 20 who liked these films. The first one was shot way too "nu-metal music video" for my taste, but horror is a genre where sequels sometimes improve over the originals, so I'd be willing to give 2 a shot if it's better than the first.

Check Rotten Tomatoes for my reviews of both flicks. ;)
I actually think the first SAW is a damn excellent piece of horror filmmaking. I remember seeing it at Sundance, well before there was any sort of buzz behind the movie, and I had an absolute ball. It felt like a well-made slasher flick with a brain, a twisted mystery, and a steely crime thriller with a nasty attitude.
And I'm 34. ;)

Hi, i just want to say that yes i am a saw geek i loved the first movie because Leigh whannell and Carry Elwes were wonderful as Dr. Gordon and Adam... i was so sad to discover that Adam was dead in the sequal but...i dont really think he is dead i mean anyone who paid attention to the bathroom in the 1st movie knew that there were no urinals and in the middle of the 1st movie Adam broke the mirror... was i suppose to notice these faults or are the directors of saw2 just lazy? oh and speaking of directors i think Leigh whannel should direct Saw3. Am i alone on this one??? Great talking to a fellow Saw geek!! XOXO Megan Ross
