Zellweger Gets Into Social Work
Filed under: Drama, Horror, Thrillers, Casting, Newsstand
According to Variety, as soon as
Renée Zellweger finishes
filming Miss Potter, she'll trade the nice world of bunnies
and children's fiction for a much darker, scarier one: that of social work. Ah! Run away! Oh all right, so social work
isn't ALWAYS scary. In the case of Zellweger's Case 39, though, it is. Trust me. She plays a social worker,
see, who does her job [insert comment about the difference between her chracter and New York City social workers here] and
removes an abused girl from the home of her parents. It turns out, however, that "the parents are not the real
problem." Now, if this movie wasn't being described as a "horror-thriller," I'd assume that meant that
teachers, or neighbors, or other relatives were involved. In this case, though, I think it's safe to assume that the
problem ain't a human one. Seriously though -- how the hell is she supposed to deal with abusive ghosts?! As if social
work isn't hard enough already, now she's supposed to be protecting a kid from things that aren't there? The movie is scheduled to start shooting in July; one hopes Paramount can track down a director by then, otherwise Renee, the kid and her ghosts are going to be doing a whole lot of waiting. (Actually, maybe that's not such a bad idea -- it could give Zellweger time to eat something.)

Renee is going to play a social worker who "does her job"? I am sure that in her tour as an imaginary social worker, she will not have to wrestle with a caseload of 25 . She will not have to contend with the effects of budget cuts on social services, and she will be paid enough to dress like a supermodel. Everyone will live hapily ever after!

I think it's very interesting that most of the comments on Renee Z. are negative, sarcastic and condescending. Quite some commentary from today's society at large. My opinion of RZ is that she's hard working, exceptionally talented and intelligent. Is everyone out there that jealous of her success??

Ron Wilson........Shes NOT going to be a real social worker, just portraying one in a movie! That isnt a contribution to society, its a part in a movie, money in her pocket, she takes what she can get now.

Well I think we all know she (RZ) has some talent which her work shows quite well. I was at a function a few weeks ago and she just happen to be at the same place...even though some people say she is to thin she is a firmly put together woman which was a surprise to me and she wears clothes well. Point being she was also friendly in a group setting...not sure why the wedding with Kenny was such a quick bust but she seems nice.

I think the problem with the Kenny marriage is that they didnt take the time to really get to know each other. Almost like a shot gun wedding with out the gun. I dont personally know either of them and I doubt that any other posts here do either so its hard to say anything about them aside from weither we like his singer or her acting. I can do with out her acting but dig on Kennys music!

I can't beleive that a woman of such talent would make a movie like this. I AM a social worker and I happen to work with abused and neglected children and the people I protect them from are REAL. I feel that if Hollywood is going to make a movie about social workers and the children we protect, then explore the real issues. By making up some story about "ghosts" shows a lack of respect to the profession and the children that are in the juvenile system. If Hollywood is that desparate for story lines that making a horror movie about ghosts and social workers, then talk to a real social worker and make a movie of relevance that attacks the issues and helps put an end to the abuse.
