WWE's Hollywood Takeover

Did any of you know that there is such a thing
as World Wresting Entertainment Films?! And that they've already got one movie in the can, and two others in the works?
Christ, I had NO idea. As created by WWE overlord Vince McMahon, WWE Films have the stated purpose of creating vehicles
for WWE wrestlers (oddly, they had nothing to do with Blade: Trinity, which starred a guy named Triple H), and will fully finance all projects as long as distribution
is arranged before production begins. Their first effort, a horror film called See No Evil, is due out May 19 and stars a large man called Kane; it's being distributed by Lionsgate, which also just agreed to handle WWE Film's newest project, The Condemned. Scheduled to begin shooting in a couple of weeks, the movie is another in the legion of titles that work off the Most Dangerous Game/Running Man evil-guy-hunting-humans riff. This one stars Steve Austin as a Stone Cold death row inmate who is "'purchased' by a wealthy TV producer, who pits him and nine other condemned men in a battle to the death." Vinnie Jones (soccer player, not wrestler) also stars, hopefully as the evil producer.
This is all The Rock's fault, isn't it?

I saw the preview for See No Evil when I went to see Hostel. Most of the audience (myself included) laughed hysterically.

They have another movie supposedly completed starring John Cena entitled "The Marine." http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0419946/
A WWE press release from Jan. 18, 2005 says that post-production had just begun and that "The Marine" will be the first released WWE produced film. Being that IMDB shows a September 2006 release, they've probably been sitting on it this long for a reason and decided releasing a cheap horror movie with (somewhat) of a better chance of making back its budget as the first WWE movie might go over better with investors. I'd wager that "The Marine" ends up direct-to-DVD.

As much of a fan of wrestling as I am, I think it's a joke that Vince started WWE Films. Just because of the sucess of The Rock, he thinks everyone can do it. I do have three letters for Vince... X...F....L

I can't believe that this article could not have been written without taking the the Lord's name in vain. AOl and the person that wrote the article should take a look at what they are writing and what they are allowing to go on screen.

I dont see what the big deal is, what because they wrestle they dont know how to act. What exactly do you think those people in the ring are doing ACTUALLY fighting, no they are acting. Another thing to point out Stone Cold & Goldberg were both in The Longest Yard, which in my opinion was a pretty good movie. Plus there is The Rock. Thats 3 wrestlers who are already in films. I'm sure there has been more that I dont even know.

First of all, by reading your little article here, I am going to assume you have never watched wrestling in 2006 or ever. "A guy named Triple H", "A large man called Kane". If you were a wrestling fan or even a wrestling historian, you would know that Triple H's name is (Jean) Paul Levesque and Kane is Glen Jacobs. There was no one better equipped to write this article?? The WWE is branching out to the movie industry since wrestling is considered acting with the story lines and such. It has nothing to do with The Rock (Dwayne Johnson), it has to do with expansion, just like other sports who have markets in apparel, video games, etc, why should wrestling not jump on the bandwagon as well? Learn your facts or better yet, know something about wrestling instead of appearing to be an unknowledgeable oaf.

Does anyone remember No Holds Bared From 1990 with Hulk Hogan? It was a classic. That movie is how I found out wrestling was fake. Hulk Hogan was suspost to be in the hospital after being attacked by earthquake on the brother love show, a month later he had a new movie out.

GO ANGELA....!! I LIKE YOUR STYLE..!! People's perception of wrestling is that everyone watching is an uneducated moron, who actually believe's that it is all real ! Hellllllooo! they have changed the last word in thier name from (wwf)"federation" to (wwe)"entertainment" to openly advertise that it is all acting, and that it is a story line developed for the fan's entertainment!! I watch it with my son and think it is awesome...! I am a very large (muscular guy) and can appreciate thier athletic abilities and the amazing things these guys are able to do...!!!!Vince is absolutely right to try his hand in different aspect of the entertainment industry.America is the land of the free....free to fail and free to succeed..!!! good luck Vince..!

#10 ragging on #5. Yes we have all heard of the 1st amendment. Just as we all have the right to say what's on our minds, we also have the responsibilty to respect each other and how our words are taken. Just as no one has the right not-to-be offended, no has the right-to-be-offensive. The person who wrote the article and their editor are professionals and it's not unreasonable or sissfied to hold them to a higher standard. If they expect to be paid to do this for a living, they can and should have done a better job. #10 and everyone else pays for these on-line news articles. We should expect better value for our money.

I agree with comment #11 that the IDIOT (or curse words)that wrote the article does NOT know diddly squat (or curse words) about much of anything. Have u even been recognized, honored & such for your "award winning" articles? I don't think so. If so, show me! But besides that, DO some RESEARCH (aren't reporters, columnists, media & such SUPPOSED to research things & sources before writing their articles and/or columns??!!) before opening your BEAK! Yes, the XFL was a BIG flop, but look at other stuff the WWE has invested in. I DON'T agree with many things the WWE and Vinnie Mac have done in the past and do in the present, but consider the $$ they have & have made by investing in things & creating things. SOMEONE ELSE should write these ARTICLES, if that's what u can call them!!

I don't think that WWE wrestlers that choose to go into movies should say that it is the Rocks Fault. Yes, he was the first to start it. But, who can say that making movies earns more money then wrestling. Vince McMahon cares alot about the fans. So much that he creates WWE Films. I'm happy about it cause, the main reason that if Stone Cold Steve Austin can't wrestler anymore I'll be glad to see him in a movie.

Oh my god, I cannot believe that a part of the comments on here are a diccussion over religion.
Do you have anything better to do than pick apart what people say? Cry yourself a river, build a bridge and get over it, welcome to the real world.
As for the movies, I love wrestling and I am excited to see these movies coming out. Sure they will not be high budget, but it will be fun to see our fav wrestlers in a different guise.
