Berman Officially Not Part of New Trek Film. Geeks Rejoice.

After endless months of rumor and speculation, the news broke recently of a new Star Trek movie finally
getting underway (you can read the full story here). A director,
writer and producer have already been announced and even the casual Star Trek fans such as myself immediately
noticed the abscence of Rick Berman's name in the initial creditings.
Well fans, you can let out that breath you've been holding since the initial story, because the controversial Berman is
officially non-existent as far as the new Trek film is concerned. Despite the tutelage of the master Gene Roddenberry, Berman has been seen by many fans as a less than impressive presence in the Trekverse, having overseen the perceived decline of the franchise these past several years. While the integrity and overall value of recent Trek projects is certainly open for debate, Berman's disassociation from the new project is hard to see as anything but a plus.

I couldn't disagree more. Berman has been the only one to stand against the degradation of the franchise. If you believe Paramount gives a rat's ass about Roddenberry's ideas, you need to spend more time in RL.

Seems that J J Abrams involvement is not all it seems, too. I blogged about it just a second ago, right here:

Seems that a director for the next Trek has NOT been announced...
Hmmmm. The mind boggles.

Does anyone else think James Cameron would be the ultimate writer/director for a Star Trek movie?

Berman? What about Brannon Braga! HE'S the one that needs lynched by Trek fans! If Voyager isn't proof enough, watch "Trekkies 2" - it's clear he has no concpetion about what Trek stands for or what it means to fans.

I'm still not thrilled. I'd much prefer a Manny Coto or a JMS to be in charge of the franchise and not JJ Abrams. I mean, c'mon. His *Superman* script was even worse than what the fans will be handed with *Superman Returns*.
I still think it would be ace to have Ryan Reynolds portray the young James T. Kirk. Maybe Shatner should be given final approval on the casting...

Bye bye Berman. Did we - make a difference? You Kirk killing, talentless, leecher off of the legacy from Gene Roddenberry. I won't be holding my breath to see if you actually create anything of your own. I'm sure that if they perhaps do a movie remake of Knight Rider and they want someone whose main idea is to destroy the Kit Car and then kill the Hasselhoff character in a stupid manner they'll be ringing you right up.

Berman is to TREK what Eisner is to DISNEY: the antichrist.

Praise Satan for finally getting rid of Berman. While Next Generation was a pretty good take on the ST legend, everything since then has been on a very slow slide down. Too Jokey, too self obsessed with its own very dubious history, too serious. Hopefully, they will get an actually quality creative crew together to produce a quality ST movie. I don't want to see another bunch of industry hacks come into ST just for a quick buck and a chance to date hot cast members
