Trailer Park: All the Real Men

As I stare at the picture of Brad Pitt above, knowing that, to some women, he is considered the hottest piece of hot to ever grace the planet Hot, I question what it actually takes to be that kind of man. A real man. With a gun at my side and an open field of opportunity before me.
I mean, is there a "Guide to Becoming a Real Man" manual that I can buy? If I don't follow the manual strictly, does that mean I'm a fake man? And if I did turn out to be a fake man, could I skip work and use that as an excuse? "Well, see sir, I'm not a real man. I'm fake. Yeah, even if I did come into work, nothing real would get done. Everyone knows a fake man cannot do real work. Right?"
Regardless of what your definition of a "real man" is, the following films all feature men with real problems. Okay, one of them is about teenagers, but the director is a real maniac -- so that counts. I think. While I go off to try and figure out whether or not a real man is allowed to crave his Mom's cupcakes, how about you stick here and check out the following real trailers? Welcome to this week's Trailer Park ...
- In The Assassination of Jesse James, Brad Pitt takes on the legendary role of James in an effort to prove that, not only is he the hottest guy on earth, but the dude plays a pretty good cowboy too. Story will surround the period in time when Robert Ford (Casey Affleck) joins up with James' gang only to resent Jesse and ultimately hatch a plan to, well, assassinate the man. Not much of a trailer here, but from the images we've seen so far, it looks to be a pretty pic.
- After post-production was delayed, forcing the studio to push this Oscar contender back all the way till next fall, All the King's Men is now gearing up for its long-awaited appearance. Sporting an all-star cast of Sean Penn, Jude Law, Kate Winslet, Anthony Hopkins, Patricia Clarkson, James Gandolfini and Mark Ruffalo, King's Men tells a classic story of political corruptness based off Robert Penn Warren's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. Look for Penn's name to be splashed across the Best Actor award speculations come Academy Award time. Oh, and then look for him not to win ... again.
- Currently screening at the Tribeca Film Festival, Lonely Hearts stars John Travolta and James Gandolfini as two homicide detectives tracking a pair of killers dubbed "The Lonely Heart Killers." Based on a true story, Martha Beck (Selma Hayek) and Raymond Fernandez (Jared Leto) traumatized the community in the late 1940's by attracting their victims through personal ads, then murdering them in a sexual frenzy.
- In Twelve and Holding, director Michael Cuesta follows up his debut film, L.I.E., with another story of troubled youth. After the death of a boy in a tree-house fire, three friends set out to deal with the tragedy in their own way. If it's anything like L.I.E., look for Cuesta's sophomore effort to be full of controversial themes, focusing once again on the dark side of adolescence.
- After films like Primal Fear and American History X, I had some really good feelings about Edward Norton. However, the chap kind of faded away into the background, landing roles in films that just didn't play well. With Down in the Valley, Norton plays a charismatic cowboy who befriends, and later seduces, a troubled teenager (Evan Rachel Wood). Things do change after this real cowboy exposes himself to be a very real danger. C'mon Eddie, we know you can act -- shake off the monotone boredom and give us a decent performance for once.

Funny, when I looked at that picture of Brad Pitt in costume, brooding in the wheat, I thought oh no, another "serious" movie in which Brad tries unsuccessfully to demonstrate his "range."

Woman here, chiming in to say that Brad Pitt has never been my idea of the hottest piece of hot ever to grace the planet Hot. Except in "Thelma and Louise." Now THAT guy was hot. But he's been nowhere in sight ever since, really.
I don't actually get the Brad Pitt thing, since most often he sports the "rode hard and put away wet" look that movie stars like to affect.
But what do I know? Jimmy Cagney in the early 30s is what makes me swoon. Those eyes!!

OK, first we had Brokeback Mountain, now we have Down In The Valley. What is this? John Wayne among others, would roll over in his/their grave/graves over this. What kind of message are we sending the younger generation? Brokeback Mountain, Capote, Transamerica,Down In The Valley. And people wonder why God seems to have turned His back on America? How different ways has America told Him to leave, beginning with prayer out of schools in 1964?

Umm....to number 4 - Evan Rachel Woods is a FEMALE! Which you would've known if you clicked the link for her name. Down in the Valley has nothing to do with gay sex.
But I guess your hatred and prejudice were just waiting to erupt at the mere idea that it could be two men.
Shame on you, for being a sloppy reader and a homophobe.

Seven was probably the only decent thing Pitt has done. In most of his work, he is so busy playing Brad Pitt, its hard to figure out his characters.

Well it looks like alot more trash on the big screen...when will Hollywood wake up and give us some movies that families would like to see and we could take our children. I am tired of all the kook, violent, horror movies...I am not alone either. My friends are feeling the same way. We rarely go to the movies anymore. I rather fill my mind with positive role models and decent values. Our society is in trouble and going down the tubes fast. You can't watch trash without it affecting you in some way. You get desensitized and apathetic. NOT good for our country.

Okay, I admit that Brad Pitt has had some "hot" moments in film. But I think it has been a growth process that you can monitor through his personal life. Whatever the lifestyle of the woman he is with at the time seems to dictate which direction his own life is taking. Not surprisingly this affects the type of roles he takes in movies. Right now he seems to be in his "humanitarian/good doer" phase. But, if he keeps to form, this too shall pass.

Wow, how can you not say Brad is hot after TROY? He is a serious fellow and actor. Johnnie Depp is also hot, serious and and a full range actor. They are tops along with Russell Crowe. They are not conventional; they are artists. You are just jealous and cannot appreciate the ones who are the stars of our time.

Ok here it comes, I am so glad to see that many are in agreement that pitt is not really the hot of hot. A friend drug me to see troy and I was ammazed that the she did not notice the costar there with a much better Physique (Banna). Some must be blind. as for his talent....well ok I did like Seven but Freeman was in it. but talent...oh yeah I remember thats what C. Bale and J. Depp have. Its a toss up they both seem to be able to be another person in their movies something Pitt at 40 something is still trying to find. And for looks I have to go with Bale he is taller and has great accent.

Brad Pitt is a very good example of a find actor in this talent field. There are few men that can be put in this catagory. Johnny Depp ,yes .But Brad has the ''The Right Stuff" for putting a movie in its place and the character he plays a real person or at least a believeable one. I thnk you for the movies he has played in and enjoyed his versatility in what ever he challenges himself to do. Not one preformance I have seen him in,and I have seen all his films. The he is a very accomplished and rewarding actor.Never mind his personal life. It is after all his own. His acting is as it is,acting. His personal life is as it is,his personal one. Thank you Mr. Pitt. I hope your future will be as fruitful as your past and my you have a healthy, happy child.
