Ben Affleck in Trek?

Take a deep breath before you read this one, Trekkies, because it is a doozy. According to an inside tipster who
spoke with the folks over at Cinescape, Ben Affleck may be in
consideration for a role in the upcoming Trek film -- possibly even the role of Captain Kirk (although rumors
still argue over Kirk's existence in a new film). The tipster is currently a crew guy on Gone Baby Gone, Affleck's major motion picture directorial debut,
and he was quick to cover his thoughts by saying "this isn't gospel, this isn't even confirmed....it's merely
speculation on our behalf, but some pretty SOLID speculation from some solid sources." The word on the street
apparently says Ben is in talks to return to the character of Jack Ryan, and after that may be moving into the
Trek verse as the lead character -- be it Kirk or elsewise. If I'm being perfectly honest, I sort of enjoy Ben Affleck and his ridiculous, hammy acting. I can even see how some execs might consider him a fit for the part as hammy is a pretty classic Trek trait. However, everything inside me just revolts at the thought of him behind the bridge of a Federation starship. Personally, I'd rather see a "newcomer" sort cast in the lead role. Anyone have any clever suggestions for unknown-ish actors who might fit the bill?

Isn't Affleck a little old to play a younger Capt. Kirk? Other than that I don't have a problem with it.

As if a prequel series wasn't bad enough, they are still wanting to do a prequel movie.....enough with the prequels already!! And Ben Affleck?! God, what's next? Jennifer Lopez as Uhura? Ben Stiller as Spock? Paramount just won't stop until they've buried their biggest franchise...sad.
One good thing about thie 11th movie, though....Berman and Braga will NOT be involved, so that is a definite plus.

As soon as I saw the title of this article, my first thought...NO. Please, NO. I completely agree that they need to use relatively unknown actors(new comers)...so if I do think of any, I'll let you know.

Oh come on. Affleck wouldn't be bad. You complain, complain, complain about every damn movie before even giving it a chance. I think Ben would be a awesome Kirk. Why, who do you want? Jim Carrey?
Dammit Jim, beam me up!

I always thought it be cool if they launched a Star Trek movie- a pre-Kirk Enterprise with Captain Pike in command. Spock would be there, but not as first officer. I figured Ray Liotta would make a great Christopher Pike, but he may be a little old for a role like that now. There's a another actor that comes to mind, but it's not Afflect.
They could even make a movie out of the pilot episode "The Cage".

Other than the facts that I was born to be the next person to portray Captain Kirk and that Ben Affleck is a no-talent assclown, I don't have a problem with him being in the rumored Star Trek prequel.
Really, if you think about it, Shatner came out of relative obscurity to be Kirk. Affleck is already a star, and his own celebrity with its associated baggage would overshadow that which is truly important: bringing a believable Kirk to back to the big screen. I, on the other hand, am very Shatner-esque while at the same time have the added benefit of having never been in a major motion picture (thus, no preconcieved notions). I can easily assume the mantle of Kirk in the minds of the viewer.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Despite the fact that, I am pretty sure anyway, Affleck is younger than Bill Shatner was when he was cast in the original, it would be the same as casting Jim Carrey to play Spock. Personally, I think Matt Damon is more suited to the role, but I think the one person I would love to see play a young Kirk is what's his face from That 70's show.

Isn't Ben Affleck at least a half-foot taller than William Shatner? They'd have to get a pretty tall guy then to make up the difference for the part of Spock. Wait, maybe Ben Affleck is going to play Spock! Yeah, that's the ticket!

I think anyone who objects to Ben Affleck in Star Trek is just jealous.. I mean here people are putting him down, saying he has no talent...and I bet these people are the same people who ran out to buy William Hung's debut album. I mean surely, if people thought he had talent, then for God's sake cut Ben some slack. I thought he was great in Armaggedon, and he was awesome in Pearl Harbor. Why not give him a chance. I mean American Pie was this huge success, and so was Porky's, these are movies that required no intelligence, or common sense to understand. Most of te opinions that were posted tonite, I am sure came from men.

If Ben Affleck is in, then will Jay and Silent Bob be crew members? Ben Stiller could play a neurotic Klingon I guess.
