Quickhits: Moritz Elopes with Comedy Spec, Grace Goes Hunting and Half of America Hates Tom Cruise
Filed under: Comedy, Drama, Casting, Celebrities and Controversy, Scripts, DIY/Filmmaking, Newsstand, Tom Cruise
Odds and ends from Thursday:
- I've always thought there should be more films that chronicle how much insanity really does go in to planning a wedding. Neal Moritz's Original Films pre-emptively snatched up Erik (Hey, he spells his name with a 'K' too!) Lohla's untitled spec script. Story is said to be a romantic comedy in the vein of Meet the Parents, and will be set in the wonderful, yet evil world of wedding planning.
- Maggie Grace (Lost, The Fog) is in negotiations to star in The Girl's Guide to Hunting and Fishing. Pic, which already has Sarah Michelle Gellar and Alec Baldwin attached is based on Melissa Banks' best-selling novel. Grace will play the best friend of Gellar's character. Here's hoping the film helps fish Sarah Michelle out of the "Who is she again?" hole that's hid her from stardom for, like, her entire career.
- Man, I sure do love me a good "let's ruin someone's career" poll. Thanks to USA Today, we now know the real reason why Mission Impossible 3 didn't make the money expected during its opening weekend. According to a poll the paper conducted, 51% of fans stayed away from the film on purpose, as sort of a protest against Tom Cruise. Why? Well, quite frankly, Tom's various off-screen antics have turned people off. Wow. So I guess we should stop blaming the Cinco de Mayo hangover, huh?

People are asking if Tom Cruise is, well, a little teched. Let me see if I have this right. He jumps up and down on sofas, he divorced Nicole Kidman, and he subscribes to a religion whose doctrine declares earth was populated by people from outer space. And he's never bothered to explain just where in outer space we might find our true home. Krypton perhaps? No, he's not a little teched, he's a whole lot tetched.

Don't look now but Earth is WAY OUT in outer space! Factually very far from this galaxy's center. What would you call its inhabitants? (Quite recently, at the beginning of the last century, some authors referred to them as "earthlings.")

Well Tom Cruise is still my #1 guy. What I really am getting sick and tired of is all of the senseless Tom Cruise bashing when I lookup the news on him. I want to see new and interesting info on him - like the cool gift Degeneres got him, and all of the TC pictures I love - not the ones doctored to make him bad. It's so disgusting and insulting to watch the media tear him down like that, twisting even his virtues into crimes. The media are like crack whores, selling their souls to their sponsors and who cares if it ruins someone's life. Journalists suck and deserve every moment of misery and cynicism they endure. How can they expect any more if they can't even let someone else be happy.

Please stop inferring people have no right to bash Tom Cruise for the insensitive & ill-informed comments he made concerning the effects of anti-depressants. He has absolutely no proof (except his religious literature--and yes, that is from his own admission). The drugs have helped more people than he cares to find out about, myself included. AND, I have taken vitamins & tried exercise (when I wasn't so depressed I could hardly function) both before & during treatment.
So, yes, while Cruise is entitled to his opinion so are the people who are sick of lies concerning anti-depressants. Also, I can make my own decision whether or not to support his career & I choose not to even if I really wanted to see the movie, my money will not go into his pockets anymore.
I think he is an addle-headed moron, but I don't spread my opinion to everyone I just protest my own way. However, I am tired of all of the media attention this idiot has been given. Let us happy depression-free people live in peace.
