Full Miami Vice Trailer! Woo Hoo!

I'm not sure I've admitted this out loud before, but here it is: I'm really, really look forward to Miami Vice. Yes, that's right. The chick who loves all things foreign and arty (and Encino Man) and turns her nose up at pretty much all blockbusters on principle alone is dying to see a big, flashy summer movie. And with Colin Farrell in it, no less! I'm not gonna lie -- I feel a little dirty about it. The thing is, though, that with the glaring except of The Last of the Mohicans (Which I hated -- was he kidding me with all that "I will find you" crap?!), I sort of think Michael Mann is a genius of mainstream filmmaking. He manages to combine a thematic, character-oriented complexity with gorgeous, big-budget visuals more effectively than virtually anyone else working in Hollywood today. I mean, try for a second to imagine the magnificent Heat in the hands of, say, Michael Bay. See what I'm saying? And I'm pleased to report that the first full trailer for Miami Vice has done nothing to discourage my optimism: It's full of neon and reflected lights, big close-ups, a little sex, and hints of a dark, serious story. Freaking awesome, people. Awesome.

Are you kidding me? We already have a modern-day equivalent of Miami Vice in the form of Bad Boys. This is just another buddy cop movie with a white guy and a black guy that happens to take place in miami. You just like it cuz the guys are hot. The only way I'll see this is if it has a few good Phil Collins montages a la the original show.

Michael Mann has had one of the best track records of any mainstream Hollywood director. He is responsible for some great films, such as Heat, and seemingly worthless source material (such as Collateral) somehow becomes a good movie in his hands. The man managed to make a movie about a tobacco executive who admits tobacco is bad a nail-biting, edge of your seat thriller (with the Insider).
I, too, am looking forward to this.

Michael Mann is not "just another" director. His misfires ("The Keep," "The Last of the Mohicans") are far more interesting to watch than anything Michael Bay has ever touched.

Mohicans a misfire? That's the minority opinion. Other than that, I am looking forward to Miami Vice. Big fan of the old show and so far I like this new take on the material.

Bad Boys was garbage Bad Boys II was garbage on steroids. Do not ever mention them in the same breath as Miami Vice again. Miami Vice was the top show of the mid to late 80s and possibly the finest cop drama ever. This movie looks promising as well.
