The Rock is Cookin' Up Some Football
Filed under: Drama, Sports, Movie Marketing
Hi. My name is Martha, and I'm a sucker for cheesy sports movies. Give me a predictable, moderately well-made story of triumph over adversity -- think Hoosiers, or even Wildcats -- and I'll be there with proverbial bells on, and Kleenex in hand (yes, I'm one of those people who cries at the happy scenes). For that reason, I'm cursing JoBlo as I type for digging up the trailer for Gridiron Gang, an out-of-nowhere football movie starring The Rock (this is confusing because we already knew he had a football movie coming out -- but this isn't it). The movie is, like 90 percent of the projects coming out of Hollywood these days, based on a true story -- there was a TV doc about the team in 1993 -- and is about a renegade coach (that's The Rock) who teaches a motley crew of badass, juvie inmates important life lessons by turning them into a football team. How much do you want to be that, with their four weeks of training, The Rock's kids thump the lily-white, super-fancy team they play in that big final game? Despite The Rock's questionable emoting, I could feel the tears coming just from the preview. Luckily for the suckers among us, though, the movie doesn't come out until September, so we've got some time to steel our heart-strings against its shameless tugging.[via JoBlo]

I saw this one a couple of months back, it was ok. The funny thing is that my brother played for that team, but around 2004.

sounds like a flop to me like all his other movies.i dont know which hes worse at doing movies or performing in the squared circle.ive never been too much of a rock fan.ill admit he has been funny on the mic at times, but mostly boring other times.he was one of the worse actors in the ring i thought.but like other people thats my opinion.

Hey I am a New Yorker like it or not so what If I am a Rock fan or Latin Heart Throb myself. The Rock is as Unique and talented as are his outstanding preformances. They often compare me to him but I tell myself this but be just a dream...The Rock is a True Legend ask anyone in Hollywood if you don't believe me.

had to laugh at aol's tagline/link because the rock isn't trying a NEW sport. he started out in football at MIAMI (FL), where he was a stud! he should be, at the very least, credible in this gridiron movie because he knows the game. would have LOVED to see him as a character in the LONGEST YARD ... maybe next time :)

Agreed about the tagline ...need to do their homework first he played college football guys, darn near went pro! It will be good to see "The Rock" in a role like this see something other than a tough guy demeanor tho nothing wrong with an occassional buttkicking which he does well lol. BTW you can expect to see his real name being used in credits soon I'm thinking Vince gets money everytime the trademarked name is used and I suspect we will see "starring Dwayne Johnson" soon .. not nearly as much fun in a tagline I know.

umm....actually he DID play pro. Granted it was CFL Canadian FootBall League, but thats Pro FootBall. Read his book. I predict it'll be another lame movie. All his movies will draw only Rock Fans until he remebers what it was that brought him to the Party. WRESTLING!!! But until then poor Dwayne's ego seems to have grown to such a degree he thinks he is a legitimate movie star. nevermind theres tons of actors in Hollywood & the wrestling tie in made him unique & stand out from the crowd.

I think Dwayne has many talents! He can do anything he sets his mind to, just like anyone else in the world. I haven't seen his latest movie yet but I can't wait to. He is gorgeouse and very kind hearted. He may look like a real badass but he is a real teddybear inside. He has worked hard to get where he is and I think credit should be given where credit is due.......to HIM. You just Keep doing your thing Dwayne baby!! I'm with ya!

Dewayne is by all means a very talent young man. He is a very strong and a gentleman. I have read his book and from what I read he has a love for his mother and father. He is a respectful person. He got skilled at a very young age. He knows that he got what it takes to be in competition! He is a taurus and he got a lot of BULL in him! So stand back and watch him do his thang!
