Destricted Gets US Distribution

Look out for flying pigs: The wildly unmarketable, compilation-style porn flick Destricted (review) has actually been picked up for US distribution. Though the movie was passed over by American companies at Sundance where it had its debut (at that time only UK distribution was secured), IFC Entertainment bought the rights at Cannes following a recent screening. According to Screen Daily, IFC plans to give the film one of those increasingly-popular simultaneous home-and-theater releases; it will be on screens -- presumably in IFC's own facilities, at least in New York -- and available via video-on-demand through their FirstTake branch. For those of you not up on your arty porn, Destricted is made up of seven segments by different directors (Larry Clark, Matthew Barney, and Gaspar Noé among them) who were told to make pornography and to keep it shorter than 20 minutes - anything else they did was up to them.
So maybe there's hope for Shortbus after all, huh? Screw the MPAA, bring on the porn!

Saw this a few weeks back and Larry Clark's IMPALED is easily worth the price of admission alone. It's the only one that really has anything intelligent at it's core, the others are just boring art pieces. Make sure you rent it just for Clark's segment. Truly amazing.

This film was easily the biggest piece of shit that I saw at Sundance. As ab said, Clark gets the award for at least providing something insightful. But it's not worth having to sit through the others to get to it (including Matthew Barney, and that's sad). Even worse is what follows. Gaspar Noe is simply unforgivable. The strobe thing was effective for IRREVERSIBLE, but the overuse of it here (not to mention the blowup doll) was nothing more than dead boring. What is IFC thinking?

Oh, God, Matthew Barney porn? It's going to look like the dream sequences in Man Who Fell to Earth: bald people and mucilage-like secretions all over the place: Crisco, vaseline, whale blubber, who knows. Him and his emollients. I've seen all five Cremaster movies and Drawing Restraint (for professional reasons, that's why) and I already know what Matthew Barney thinks is erotic...Hork! And people who saw Irreversible already know what Noe thinks is hot, too (nobody who obsessively stages a rape scene like that is doing it for the protest value). Did they go out of their way to find the ookiest directors working? Couldn't they have added Vincent Gallo in there, for maximum repulsion?
