Ghost Rider Gets a Trailer
Filed under: Action, Fandom, Trailer Trash, DIY/Filmmaking, Movie Marketing, Comic/Superhero/Geek
Okay, now we're cookin' -- a Ghost Rider trailer is currently online and available to watch, like, a million times in a row. Well, that's if you want to know the real reason why the studio quietly shifted the film's release date from this summer to February 2007 (a/k/a "here is where we dump the crappy movies and hope no one notices").
That's right, after checking out said trailer, something didn't quite sit right with me. Now, I'm not sure if it was last night's Chinese take-out or Eva Mendes appearing as if she tried out for the part of Denise Richards in How to Steal Your Best Friend's Man and Still Look Sexy, yet somehow wound up with a role in Ghost Rider instead. Oh, and why the hell did Nicolas Cage take on this Marvel character in the first place?
Look, I'm positive most of you will go watch the preview, then come back here and scream, "Dude, what are you talking about? You obviously have no knowledge of Ghost Rider and no business writing for this Cinematical website. Jerk." It's cool. I understand. However, first I have to say that this film looks so bad, I'd buy the DVD only so that I could throw it at someone I didn't like. And that would be me on a good day. Hey, but totally judge for yourself.

let's just say Ghost Rider is a much better super hero for cage to be playing than Superman. Thank goodness they stopped that. I think it looked good/ok. with the bike looking better than Ghost Rider. Would be better to come out on halloween though. Maybe it'll be a surprise like the first blade.

Er, is it just me or does this look no better than "Hollow Man 2"?

Man, you know what, I thought it looked pretty good... until the CGI started. I think they got Johnny Blaze pretty right (and I didn't think Cage would be a good Blaze) - but those effects looked GODAWFUL.

There are three major problems evident in that trailer:
1. The damn thing looks like it was all shot on a shitty set with waaayyy too much lighting. When will directors realize how god-awful fake that looks?
2. The shots of GR in costume look weird because of the not massively built person (I assume Cage) in all that leather. The person has no V shape needed to look like a super strong comic hero. Couldn't they have just CGI'd the whole thing? It looks like GR drinks way too many beers.
3. The head/skull. Putting a real sized skull (which will always look weird because it's so small and not the larger fleshier head) on top of a larger fleshier body, just looks stupid. In any illustrated renditions of GR you'll notice the skull size is always exaggerated to make it fit the body better. How could a CG miss this? Or were they going for a realistic person will a skull on fire look?
This is gonna be a stinker.

What is wrong with the rider? That skull is just too clean - it's not been dragged up from the depths of hell, it's be dragged off a shelf at the Natural History Museum. It also looks like it has been set too far forward on the body. I was looking forward to this one but there is no way to maintain the suspension of disbelief looking at that.

That skull reminds me of the old computer game 7th Guest. It looks network TV clean.

Dude, what are you shooting up? That teaser is incredible and the movie itself is going to be one the top comic book movies ever. I'm not sure how you can't see that, especially considering your run a movie site. Ya think you'd know something about them...

I thought the trailer was pretty sweet, I thought the CG was pretty good, the scene of him riding up the building was sweet. My only bitch is that, there looked like the backgrounds look a little fake. Cant be as bad as Fantastic Four or Daredevil.

Will the trailer explain to me what type of animal that is sitting on Cage's head?

One of the 'top comic book movies ever'? Is this a serious statement?
I predict a bomb. A fucking nuclear warhead of shitastic stinkosity. Ghostrider has always been a niche-comic and it won't translate well to live action. And, Cage is on the deep decline. Not sure if he could have ever carried this movie but certainly any hope of that is past. Let's move on to Iron Man or Aquaman or Captain America....

While I don't think it will be a huge success either, Ghost Rider makes a much more logical film than say Captain America. I think Nick Shield with a George Clooney would be good. Iron Man might snag Tom Cruise since he's ona downward slide. But even that will probably be cheesy. Ghost Rider fits that whole religious horror niche pretty well.

Wow, nothing like a whole bunch of people who have no idea what they are talking about. Nick Shield? Do you mean Nick Fury? Aquaman over GR?? Ugh, talk about a throw away character. Keep in mind this is a "teaser," not a full trailer. They have nearly 9 months to work on the effects. The teaser for SM1 had scenes that were compeltely changed by the time the movie arrived. I don't expect this to be the blockbuster of the year...but it WILL NOT be a bomb.

The teaser blew my socks off!
Sure this isnt as riviting as a 2 1/2 hour drama and make you cry tears of joy and satisfication. It might make serious movie go'ers dissapointed, but this isnt a serious movie.
I will take this movie for exactly what it is, a movie adaptation to a comic. This is a comic I read as I was growing up and for Marvel to notice how f'intastic it looks on the big screen is a blessing.
I can't wait until this movie comes out. I have been waiting for this movie since 1996!
