Joss Whedon is Writing Buffy Again
Filed under: Action, Fandom, Distribution, Newsstand, Home Entertainment, Comic/Superhero/Geek, Remakes and Sequels
You'd think doing the whole writing-a-movie-script thing (in addition to planning for the film because you're also going to direct it) would keep a man and his pen pretty busy. Not so Joss Whedon, however -- one or six projects is not enough to occupy the ever-active mind of one of geekdom's favorite kings. While writing and prepping for the much discussed Wonder Woman film project, Joss Whedon has also made plans to return to his roots and reconnect with his fan base by going back to the still very popular Buffy The Vampire Slayer universe. Whedon is writing an all-new comic book mini-series for Dark Horse Comics with the first book due as early as October of this year. I've said it before and I'll say it again: while I may not be a huge fan of Joss Whedon's body of work, I absolutely love the man for the way he treats his fans. The man is well aware of who is responsible for his success, and you'd be hard pressed to find a guy who works harder to give his fans what they want. He's also obviously desperately infatuated with the worlds he has created, and that's always fun to see. As long as Whedon continues to treat his fans like royalty he deserves every ounce of the rabid devotion they bestow upon him.

That's got to be the most round-about, praise filled way of saying Joss Whedon is a loser that I've ever read. Heh.
I think Whedon is possibly the greatest story teller of our generation. That isn't to say the stories he tells are without a superior somewhere, but his ability to weave an almost innumerable quantity of stories/characters that are all of fantastic quality and originality is beyond impressive.
I think Whedon treats his fans like royalty, but not for the reason you've mentioned. Whedon clearly loves to tell stories, but I don't think he tells them because his fans ask him to. I think he tells them because he genuinely loves to. And you can see that in everything the man does. Even Alien Ressurrection. Yeah, I said it.

I STILL mourn both Buffy and Angel. My Buffy DVD collection is very dear to my heart - I'm a nerd - I know it. JOSS RULES. His wit and writing is unmatchable. I eagerly await his next project.

I wish Joss Whedon would get over himself long enough to actually COMPLETE the Wonder Woman script which he's been working on since October of LAST year so they can move forward with the Wonder Woman movie---He doesn't seem all that committed to it to me---and his work isn't all that great--Buffy was a cool character---but sometimes that show was outright stupid---remember the Buffy-bot?............I almost wish they'd just hire someone else to handle Diana's movie debut.

Joss's storytelling does run to genius. He makes the story timely, makes the charaters delightfully flawed, ang gives a viewer hope... I look forward to WW... but my personal hope would be to see him expand the FF universe... the potential is infinite.
