Patrick Stewart on Sequel Possibilities ... Again

Patrick Stewart has been vocally leading the way for a fourth X-Men film, loudly and repeatedly voicing his disbelief in the studio's insistence that this is indeed the final film. His fellow actors have chimed in on both sides ... but the studio remains strong in their denial. In a recent interview, Stewart admitted both that he had no actual knowledge of a sequel, and that the film people keep telling him there will be no more -- but he still doesn't seem to quite buy it. In the meantime, he said he has no plans other than his twelve month contract with the Royal Shakespeare Company. Stewart again said the work he has done on the X-films was fantastically fun and he'd love to do it again: "I read piles of comic books. It was the most fun research that I've ever done. I always do a lot of research for roles and all I did was read. The studio just sent over a huge pile of comic books and my son said, 'And they're paying you?'"So do you think the studio actually finished with X-Men, or do you, like Stewart, believe it's just a clever ploy to milk as much cash as they can from part three? Or perhaps it is somewhere in between. Might the studio be waiting to see the final box office numbers before making an official decision on a return? And don't you wish someone would pay you to read piles of comic books?

O.K., have you even seen the movie? The two endings, the one before and the one after the end credits, are more open than the endings of X Men 1 and 2 combined, you got Vinnie Jones going around saying he has signed a contract for other two X Men movies, Lauren Shuler Donner that in an interview for CHUD.com says that they're preparing a whole X Men saga, with other sequels of the main franchise to go hand in hand with the various spin offs, and a movie that has opened on Memorial day breaking any previous record for the week-end in terms of Box office, and you're still asking IF there will be a another X men movie? The real question is not IF. It's how many more there will be.

I've never believed that this would be the last movie. I do think that one of two things will happen with this franchise: either A)Fox will make part 4 and beyond after they do their Wolverine, Magneto, and any other spinoffs or B)Fox will let the rights revert back to Marvel and they can continue and release the franchise (but after the box office numbers this weekend, I'm betting on option A.)

It's the best I'm ever seen. But second part was more gloomily.

Look at the money X3 made this weekend. It essentially made it back into the profit zone in three to four days. You can just about bet that the studio can already see the dollar signs from X4.

After seeing both endings, I honestly can't see why there wouldn't be more films to come. I suspect that the studio is going to wait to see what the final numbers are before committing to a fourth ensemble film. I wouldn't be surprised if the studio stay tight-lipped until the Wolverine spin-off is firmed up and production is well underway.

Ok I might be missing something here but movie blog released this yesterday.
http://www.themovieblog.com/archives/2006/01/fox_confirms_xmen_4.html
It basically states that fox will be making a 4th and that the only reason for "The Last Stand" title was that this is the final movie in this chapter/trilogy. And we all know that you can't die any less then 5 times in the marvel universe so I don't think it'll be a problem bringing characters back.
I'm not sure how on the up and up this report on movie blog is, the link just happened to be on a forum that I routinely visit.

If you read the comics and the story, WHY IS THE MOVIES NOTHING LIKE THE STORY, It's not just that, It screws the whole x-men comic story up. I'm sorry but you did not do your "research" very well. And even if the 3rd left it ready for a 4th, it screwed the story up so bad the 4th can only fix it by saying the whole 3rd movie was professor x's dream. Sorry it sucked

Have you not seen the other 2 xmen movies amy? None of them are like the comics.
the comic universe is WAAY to convuluted and has WAAY too much background for 2 2hour movies to do justice to. So they took the second approach and made an all new story. Kinda like how the comics have all the alternate universes going.
Personally i thought X3 was better than what everyone gave it credit for.
So calm down a bit will ya?
