Avi Arad Says No X4

Despite a worldwide opening of almost $200 million and a domestic take of at least $120 million for X-Men: The Last Stand, Marvel spokesman Avi Arad insists they will stick to the announced plans and end the franchise with the third film. Arad says Marvel and their studio friends plan to focus on the already planned spin-off films Wolverine and Magneto, and have no plans for an X4: "The first reaction, which we should discard, is here comes 'X-Men 4. We're working on Wolverine, which is definitely a continuation, and we have a very interesting script about a young Magneto."There you have it folks, straight from the horse's mouth. Do you believe him? The box office take for X3 thus far certainly makes it seem like the studio would not want to let the title franchise die -- it's been a real money winner for them thus far. But we've heard nothing recently from anyone in power suggesting they are even thinking of a sequel, so perhaps they are really going to stick to their guns and go with the spin-offs only. Stay tuned to Cinematical, we'll be on the beat for you and we'll let you know when something new develops.

Wow, if they're going to let the franchise end with a cop out like X3, then Arad needs to be kicked off the X-men team especially after saying Ratner is/was a good desicion....

Well, I guess Lauren Shuler Donner and Arad really need to talk more.
Who knows what is going to happen at this point. My money is still on a X Men 4 to come around, some time in the future.
Foir the record, I thought, X Men The Last Stand, was a good movie. Not great, but there was a joy in it, an enthusiasm in playing around with the X universe that I really liked.
It has a B Movie-ish, tongue in cheek quality to it, that the Singer movies didn't have, which I enjoyed.
It's just a different approach.

Even though X-3 made a lot of money, Marvel is only
getting peanuts from it. I guess the initial deal (starting with the first X-Men) made was at a disadvantage for them. It could have been because the movie studio didn't want to
make the first X-Men movie and to get them to do it, maybe Marvel had to give Fox (or Newscorp) the advantage. And now Marvel just doesn't want to
continue the crappy deal.
I could be wrong at the end there,
but my first sentence was definitely a fact.
And as much as I didn't like X-3, I wouldn't mind seeing more X-Men movies.

Illmatic, do you really think a company that has been around as long as Marvel has was stupid enough to tie themselves into a contract that wouldn't make them that much money? Peanuts my ass.
If they don't make a fourth X-Men film in the next 12 years (that's the distance between T2 and T3, so it seems a good cut off point), I will eat my shoe.

Well, Peter, I thought the same that you did. But that's not the case. I got the fact that they are making only peanuts off of X-3 from CNBC's On the Money show. So I didn't make that up.
Even though Marvel has been around a long time, they were actually in bankruptcy back in 1996 through 1998. So you be the judge of how stupid Marvel can be. They only came out of bankruptcy by merging with ToyBiz. Also, for the first X-Men movie, Marvel only got a flat licensing fee. No profit sharing with Fox or anything like that. (I'm not saying the X-3 deal is like that, but Marvel can be that "stupid.") Now those are ALL FACTS. You can go look it up yourself.
As much as I like to see you eat your shoe, I don't have the patient to wait 12 years and I would rather see X-4 instead. But that was quite an offer though.

These guys will keep saying this until the movie is almost out of the theaters. Then they will "suddenly" pull a 180 and say the fans want X-Men 4 so we are going to do it for the fans. That is my take on all of this talk.

Yeah, I stayed for the extra scene. I'll bet they already have the script written.

I thought that X3 had some good elements but unfortunately, some equally bad flaws.Maybe by Arad
having a company will allow Marvel to have some creative control.

Kelsey was perfect as Beast, but this movie kinda sucked. Cyclops keeps getting his ass kicked,Rogue still sucks,no super strength or flight not once did she kick ass in any movie. No Gambit even though his name is seen in X-2?? No Havoc?? No good explanation to the non-readers to why Juggernaught joined The Brotherhood, his costume totally sucked,he was still kinda weak(Knocked himself out by hitting a wall HE couldn't break?),a corny Australian accent? Why?? I hope the fat guy that turned skinny in the movie wasn't supposed to be THE BLOB cuz he did nada. Angel did nothing heroic but save his dad. Pheonix just seemed dumb. No way they could end X-men without Forge(Jimmy Smits),Banshee, and finally Apocalypse(Michael Clark Duncan). You guys still have work to do with X-men. I can wait for Weapon X/Alpha Flight. A Magneto movie eh, whatever.
