Oh Good God: Dakota Does Elvis
Filed under: Drama, Independent, Casting, Fandom, Newsstand, Cinematical Indie
I know there are some people who are impressed rather than deeply disturbed by Dakota Fanning and her freakishly adult ways, but I'm just not one of them. Don't get me wrong, I know the girl is a really good actress and all, but when I look into her eyes, I see someone who is much older than I am and I gotta say, it's creepy. Anyway, for you fans who have been jonesing to see the girl ever since Dreamer wandered off the screens, you've not only got Charlotte's Web coming out in December, but also a new, untitled project that is going to be a hell of a lot more exciting than a movie about a spider and a pig.According to Variety, this new project is a doozy: It's set in the 1960s, and Fanning will star as (ready?) "a precocious girl who overcomes the negative effects of abuse by singing and dancing like Elvis." Oh. My. God. Could anything be more difficult to pull off? Seriously, this is the sort of thing that, on the 95% chance it doesn't work, could be a career killer -- within a matter of days, our Dakota could go from being the greatest child actress since Jodie Foster to "the girl in that awful Elvis movie." That said, of course, if it works we will all be bowing down and welcoming our new ruler, Queen Fanning.
Starring alongside the hopefully sideburned, jumpsuited (though I fear the 1960s is too early for that Elvis) Dakota will be Robin Wright Penn and David Morse; the movie just started filming under the direction of writer-producer Deborah Kampmeier.

I think Dakota Fanning is smart and obviously has great upbringing. She is what I would want my daughter to be like if I had one. I think she will always be a huge success in acting, if that's what she chooses. I love watching her. She's a very special talent and anyone who takes anything away from her needs to examine their own agenda. Go Dakota...we love you!

This child is certainly a great little actress. What she projects onto the big screen is sooo believeable. She has an insight into human nature that is all to rare in today's actors. If anyone can pull this off, it is Dakota Fanning. You go girl!

I think the idea is fascinating. I love Elvis and Dakota. Who knows what could happen. I remember thinking what bad casting when I heard Michael Keaton was going to play Batman. It turned out he was great and the best Batman in my opinion.

I think child actors are scary period. When you think of all the competition and all that is required not only of the children themselves, but the parents who push them to get them where they are, it is unnatural. I'm waiting for Dakota Fanning to play JonBenet, then we will have come full circle.

Calling it an Elvis film is not entirely accurate. It's more along the lines of "Bastard out of Carolina" than "Jailhouse Rock." The film was being called "Hounddog" -- yes from the song -- but the character sings more as a way of coping than of karaoke-ing.

Dakota Fanning is a great actress but like so many other actresses out there, after awhile, some one better and more talented will come along. She is kind of concited. I heard on the Stlye network, someone was making a joke, that Tom Cruise left Nicole Kidman for a younger girl, Katie Holmes. And when he gets sick of Katie, watch out Dakota!

Am I the only one who remembers Elisabeth Taylor, Judy Garland, Shirley Temple,Margaret O'Brian and Mickey Rooney (to name a small portion of child actors)? I recall some real 'moving' movies they starred in,'tear-jerkers' . Dakota doesn't do anything out of the ordinary when you recall some of their acting. That's why they're remembered by us as ACTORS.. that's why we respect their skill.

Dakota Fanning is very talented as well as being a beautiful little girl. Whether or not the Elvis thing will work for or against her only time will tell. I hope her parents have instilled in her the right kind of values.

Dakota Fanning is a talented powerful young actress. The fact that at times she can be scary or creepy to us proves just how talented she really is. I appluade her abilties to make us squirm in our seats, and then ten minutes later to make us want to tell her that everything will be okay. She is an awesome storyteller; and even if this new movie of her's is not enjoyable and her singing is unbearable, it will not ruin her career. Time and again she has wowed us, the new movie could not be bad enough to make us forget her talents. Dakota, girl, tell us another story.

I gaurentee you that Dakota will make this the best movie. She will rock at that part. When it comes to her career, She will do anything the director wants and make ir real. She will do anything to make the audience Scream. I gaurentee you she will do better than any other child actress in the world the director could have picked!!

This is Dakota Fanning. Enough said. She is one of the most talented actors of our time. She could be the next Shirley Temple...but slightly different. Fame wise. She deserves our support. Goo girlie! She can do whatever she puts her mind to and I wish her the best of luck.

OK, so she can act. WOW. There is a plethora of talented child actors/actresses who never get the chance that Dakota has. And to Graciela Downey...this is the 21st century. Once she hits 13, the child-like innocence is gone. Ever heard of Jojo?...
