Calling Sean Connery -- You're Needed in Indy 4
Filed under: Action, Casting, Paramount, George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Remakes and Sequels
Sean Connery supposedly retired from the movie business last year because he can't take the "idiots" working in Hollywoood, but now he's being called back into action. George Lucas told Access Hollywood that Connery is needed to reprise his role of Henry Jones in Indiana Jones 4. "We are writing him in whether he wants to do it or not," said Lucas, who is serves as executive producer on the franchise. The two were united Thursday night, along with Harrison Ford, at AFI's Lifetime Achievement Award ceremony, where Connery was honored. Hopefully Lucas had a chance to discuss the film get down on his hands and knees and beg Connery to return, because it is certainly a special occasion that needs to happen. I personally think that Connery and Ford's pairing in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade made the movie the best in the series, and I'd love to see it continue in the fourth installment.
But if Connery can't be convinced, perhaps Darrell Hammond would like to jump in?

Do we really need to see what Indiana Jones is doing in his 50s?
This movie should not happen. I promise it won't be any better or worse than any of the second Star Wars trilogy.

50s? Try early 60s. Though, if anyone can get away playing an AARP-registered action hero, it's Harrison Ford.

I'm looking forward to the next Indy movie and I don't care how old Ford and Connery are, Ford has charisma and a great sense of timing; and Connery, well, I could listen to his voice 24/7. Ever since I saw him in Darby O'Gill & the Little People (I was a little girl back then), I've had a crush on him. The Indy movies are fun (nothing you have to think about or shield your kids from), purely entertaining, refreshing, action movies. Something for the WHOLE FAMILY! Needless to say, I can't wait for it to come out!

Pathetic. And Spielberg is talking about how he wants to be making serious independent movies like Syriana, while he makes a FOURTH Indiana Jones movie? Jesus God In Heaven, a FOURTH Indiana Jones movie?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Ease up there David and Tom. Settle on down. Sure it's a bit scary, and it could go terribly wrong. Like you said David, the Star Wars prequels certainly aren't promising points. A few things to consider though. 1. George Lucas hadn't directed or really worked on a film directly for decades until he finished up his saga. 2. The third movie, although not great, certainly redeemed the prequels to some degree. 3. Most importantly, George Lucas isn't writing this script! It has gone through several drafts with respectable writers, and will limit the dry dialogue that plagued Lucas' scripts in the prequels. This script has been approved finally by Ford, Spielberg, and Lucas.
Sure, it could fail terribly and they could lose the greatness that is associated with the Jones series, but it could also be the rare commidity that really delivers. A fun action film and is simply that...fun! With Mr. Spielberg at the helm, Mr. Ford, and hopefully Mr. Connery, this should be another great and fun outing.
Tom, yea, Spielberg is going to do some smaller films as well. That does not mean he won't lend his talents to a tentpole here and there as well. Best of both worlds. He is especially coming back to make sure that his series is not destroyed. Look for it to be a grand addition to the Indy series, and a fun tentpole. Munich is just the beginning of smaller films for Spielberg. More will come.

Spielberg has always thrown smaller, "issue" films in with his exciting action films... look at his filmography. Temple of Doom, the the Color Purple and Empire of the Sun. Jurassic Park, then Schindler's List. Lost World, then Amistad.
Munich was his best movie in years. If he makes a return to Indy, I'll probably see it.

Please write out the character of Indy's father, being a Bond fan, I've learned not to be too fussy about continuity, but if someone is playing that part other than Sean Connery, I don't think I'll be too happy they brought the character back

Sean Connery...One of the true great actors still working. Yes, working! Done correctly and intelligently, acting does take work. Hard dilligent work. It is evident, from Mr. Connery's film portrayals, that he is not lazy and takes pride in his work. Did he appear in some flops? Yes. Did his acting always seem his best effort? No. Were there reasons? I don't know. Probably. Do my wife and I dwell on these lackluster films? No! Even in movies that were flops, and movies where Mr. Connery did not seem his best, his second best was still good, and better than many "actors" best. But why dwell on lackluster films or flops, when Mr.Connery has given such a wealth of captivating and professional performances? To dwell on the few would seem to be straining at a gnat while swallowing a camel. Don't miss the majority of works by a master painter because of the few canvases they were given to work with were flawed.Instead, appreciate the many other masterpeicses they created. No, this is not Idol worshhip. My wife and I are not members of a Sean Connery fan club. (We don't even know if there is a fan club.)We just like and enjoy watching Mr. Connery "work". So, if he wants to retire we want he and his family to enjoy retirement...thanks Sean! If he'll do 'Indie IV'...GREAT CAN'T WAIT! Either way...Thanks to you and your family.
