Another Magnum Rumor; Commence Freaking Out
Filed under: Action, Drama, Casting, RumorMonger, George Clooney, Remakes and Sequels
The last time we talked about the casting rumors regarding the Magnum, P.I. movie, about 95% of you flipped out at the thought of that evil, Un-American bastard George Clooney taking over a role originated by your Real, Gun-Wielding Man Tom Selleck. (Based on the copious comments we received, it's apparently physically impossible to be a fan of both. As someone who owns Magnum on DVD and adores both Selleck and Clooney, I expect to disappear into thin air any second now.) And, angry Selleck-lovers it's about to get worse/ Though Clooney has denied that he's tied to the role, another nasty liberal has been thrown into the mix by series producer Charles Floyd Johnson, who claims he's heard Ben Affleck's name associated with the part. Horrors!Me, I'm troubled more by Affleck's complete inappropriateness for the role than by his politics. Either way, though, I'm guessing that in this case it's going to be hard to find anyone who thinks this casting would be a good idea.

You know, they'd never do it, but I still think David James Elliott would be the best pick for Magnum. The problem is, he sort of played Magnum in JAG, so it'd be kinda odd.

Oh wait, Elliott is Canadian. I can't see people wanting a Canadian Magnum.
Thus, I make a suggestion that is sure to get me 50 stars. We need a Magnum who is a real man. One who isn't afraid to get dirty. One with a baritone voice. Yes, I am talking about the host of "Dirty Jobs": Mike Rowe.
You may now shower me with stars.

I have the answer. If these guys are such a problem to deal with, I'll do it. My name is Tom, and yes right now I'm a complete unknown. But people asking "Tom who?" will be the key to making this work.
Mr. Johnson, you know where to reach me.

I was never a fan of the show since Selleck bore an uncanny resemblance to an evil ex-boyfriend. Looking back I don't really see what interest can still exist in a show that was rather run-of-the-mill. Nevertheless, it seems that any reasonably easygoing masculine actor could take the role.

I wouldn't mind Ben Afflek. If Kevin Smith was directing. Personally, I would like to see Selleck back.
I think the issue is do they want to go with a ultra-serious take on the dramatic side, like they are doing in Miami Vice, or go with a more comedic side, like Starsky and Hutch did.
Personally, I would love to see a comedic Magnum with Vince Vaughn rolling around Hawaii in whatever supercar that was willing to sponsor the movie. Maybe a Viper to keep it 'merican!

Okay, call me crazy, but what's wrong with Tom Selleck playing Magnum? Sure he's aged a bit, but so should have Magnum, right? It would be interesting to see all the former castmates together in a "reunion" scenario, where the viewers are updated on their lives since the original show ended. George Clooney? Gross!

If they make it with anyone besides Tom Selleck they might as well go ahead and change the name of the movie too. It won't be Magnum!

If you were a fan of Magnum PI then the decision of who should be casted for the main characters is elementary. The original actors, including Selleck of course, should star in the new production. The show of the 1980's was outstanding and due in particular to the writing and cast. They were believable characters and isn't that what acting is suppose to do? Bring back Selleck, Hillerman,Mosley, and Manetti. Case closed!

Would LOVE to see George Clooney in the role. I'd love to see him play Steve Trevor in the Wonder Woman motion picture! I think that Charisma Carpenter should be cast as Wonder Woman in the upcoming feature film and Katharine McPhee should portray Wonder Woman on the WB's Smallville. All these girls need are some blue eye contacts. They have the rest.
