Yes, most of us are big happy fans of Johnny Depp and his Pirates of the Caribbean movies, but Disney's planning a mega-massive onslaught of non-stop marketing tie-ins that just might have us sick to death of Captain Jack -- well before Pirates 3 shows up next May.

According to L.A. Weekly's Nikki Finke, who certainly seems to know her stuff, the following items have recently been approved for a Jack Sparrow trademark:

Now ... scan through that list and pick out which Pirates tie-ins might make sense to a normal consumer ... and then commence scratching your head on who the hell needs a Captain Jack DVD player, a Captain Jack modem (whaa?), a Captain Jack karaoke machine, or a Captain Jack ... deodorant and breath freshener?? (Aren't pirates, y'know, smelly?) My next trip through the mall will undoubtedly be peppered with overheard conversations like "Oooh, I hope Sears has the new Captain Jack ottoman! And call that other store to see if they have the non-Christmas Captain Jack ornaments made of bone!"

Plus the idea of a Pirates baby book makes a whole lot of sense ... at least until your tot turns four and asks you what "rape and pillage" means. Captain Jack bath gels? Captain Jack coat racks? (At least it rhymes -- and the prospect of owning a "Captain Jack Fanny Pack" just makes me want to start rapping!) Also: Am I stoned on crack, or did I just see "pancake mix" listed as a Captain Jack licensee? (Ohh, I can see it now: Captain FlapJacks! Neato!) And the first mother I see who purchases a Captain Jack bassinet is getting a visit from Family Services. I mean it.
