Wonder Woman from Bollywood ?
Filed under: Action, Casting, RumorMonger, Comic/Superhero/Geek, Remakes and Sequels
Hey, it has been a while since we last discussed the whole Wonder Woman casting thing, hasn't it? I'm sorry I've neglected you, dear Wonder Woman news hounds (yes, all five of you). But hey, I'm here to make it up to you now with a real doozy. Today's hot rumor comes to us straight out of Bollywood, from one of India's own comic book actresses. A scooper over at sliceofscifi reports the Whedon camp has expressed some serious interest in actress Priyanka Chopra, most recently of Krrish fame. Apparently, Miss Chopra is popularity incarnate in Bollywood right now, and Whedon thinks her charm might play just as well in the West. This does some pretty serious damage to browncoat hopefuls who have been pulling for Morena Baccarin, as Baccarin was leading the popular rumor races of late. Some thoughts suggest Baccarin's newly accepted regular guest role on TV's Stargate might have resulted in conflicting schedules, but I have trouble believing she'd opt for a few TV guest spots over a major motion picture. If she's out, it's most likely because the Powers That Be have rejected her for some reason. Or possibly even Joss himself ...

I might be proven wrong (hell, I almost certainly will be) but I suspect that none of the individuals so far linked with the role actually get it. I suspect someone who might actually fit the part could be cast instead.

This rumour comes from IMDB's Wonder Woman page.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0451279/
The link was posted at Whedonesque and got deleted because IMDB is highly unreliable when it comes to casting for upcoming movies. But Slice of SciFi picked it up before the Whedonesque post was deleted.
So no scoop.

Right idea, wrong woman. Somebody get Aishwarya Rai's number to Whedon, pronto.

Wrong choice. Wrong Writer and Director.Wrong Producer. It's still not too late for Whedon too admit that he is way over his head on this.Sure Whedon writes stories that impower woman. But remember the Catwoman movie. It had nothing too do with her comic book character.A forgetable movie. The fans are not Idiot's.Apparently Joel Silver is. When he hired [ Ego Boy] Whedon I wonder if he ever asked if he was a passionate Wonder Woman fan? I doubt it.I don't have any confidence that this movie will be succesful on any level. The remarks that Whedon has made about his vision make me ill.I don't think that they even know who they want for the leed.A young unknown, or a known older actress.Nadia Bjorlin has been out there. She wants the part.Give her a chance.

Considering Wonder Woman is supposed to a be of Greek descent, I think it would be nice to see someone of Greek or Near Eastern extraction for the title role.

Repeat after me...Monica Bellucci. Well, if she doesn't get the role of Talia Al Ghul first.

I am so disappointed!!! Not only is Joss the wrong person to write and direct this project, now, to top it off, Charisma Carpenter wasn't chosen to play the amazon princess!!!??? Plus, Joss said early on that he is not writing any known villains in the script which means no Cheetah! He has obviously not paid any attention to any of the comic book films that have been extremely successful due to having well known villains in them. The film is hopeless! It's going to be another dud like Elektra and Catwoman. Just because he had a good run with his TV shows like Buffy and Angel, lets not forget how terrible he botched them both up before they left the air. This film should have gone to Chris Nolan or Tim Burton, not Joss. And his recent decisions have already proven this! If there is no Charisma Carpenter or no Cheetah, I will avoid this debacle all together. Thanks Joss for messing this up for the fans of Superhero movies!

Charisma Carpenter should be cast as Wonder Woman in the upcoming feature film and Katharine McPhee should portray Wonder Woman on the WB's Smallville. The only thing that these girls need are some blue eye contacts. They have the rest.

I think Priyanka Chopra is the closest match to Wonder Woman we've seen so far. Girls in Hollywood just dont have the shape or strong features that WW has. Priyanka is a former Miss World, enough said?! I don't know if shes the perfect woman for the part, but she is definately hands above Charisma Carpenter or Morena Baccarin. Welcome Bollywood!!!!!!

I don't have any clue as to who Priyanka Chopra is, but I went on her Web site and saw her gallery. She definitely has the look, most especially the picture I saw of her with blue eyes. Linda Carter from the series Wonder Woman had brilliant blue, hypnotic eyes and that is actually part of what is the appeal. As far as her acting skills go, I have no idea what she's like. But to say that Joss Whedon is not capable of doing this film is just ridiculous. I don't think he would have taken the project on if he thought he couldn't do it. As far as leaving in or taking characters out, yes it might be a disappointment but have an open mind: he has a vision that he wants to share. I am anxious to see that vision based solely on what I've seen of his creations so far. Go Joss!

THe ideal actress to play Wonder Woman is Lauren Graham of Gilmore Girls fame. If they can't recast the wonderful Lynda Carter then Lauren is it.

Well, perhaps WW was of Greek descent on the show. But in real-life, Linda Carter, real name Jean Cordoba is of Hispanic descent. And, that's unfortunate that her true ethnic identity wasn't displayed at that time. I think it's nice to give another ethnicity get a shot at the role. Although, I think that they should've chosen a Latina actress in rtibute to the original WW, who at that time couldn't be her true self.

If you look at history. Movie rights were originally given to a specific bloodline, for SS reasons. I think the web address on this post is the one you safely want.

I think Katherine McPhee from Idol fame would make the perfect Wonder Woman. She has that all American look and has the sweet innocent quality just like Linda Carter showed in the original series. Add her name to the list.

I remember Priyanka from Ms. World. She IS gorgeous. Don't know anything about Joss. Wonder Woman is too "bright" a heroine to be directed by "dark" Tim Burton, though I love his work. I'm a huge Wonder Woman fan, female in my 40s. Would love to see Ang Lee direct it with incredible stunts, hi-tech toys, and a physically fit actress with some kind of exotic accent. And great outfits with superhero accessories. The boots have to be Extraordinary. And please, GREAT storyline with strength, intellect, and beauty -- and mystique.
