Drangonlance the Movie ... For Real This Time

Some movies feel like they've been on the way since the Revolutionary War. Perennial rumors occasionally renew hope, new writers are assigned, new directors express interest, new studios pick up the license ... but these hopefuls just can't seem to make it out of what the business refers to as "development hell." One such film has been a Dragonlance project, based on the popular fantasy setting. Rumors ranging from a Canadian film to a Henson Co. film have cropped up and subsequently died over the years, but it appears as though we've finally found one which is going to stick, because vocal work has already been recorded for it. Yes, recorded -- it's going to be a CGI 2D/3D animation film this time.If you swing on over by Lucy Lawless' website (holy cow, I never thought I'd find myself typing that phrase), you can read her somewhat interesting thoughts on doing voice work for Dragonlance. Says Lawless: "I played a character called Goldmoon, a Native American. We played around with accents awhile. I didn't know she was Native A till I got there and so didn't have time to research the accent (not many of those where I come from). More staccato! More commanding! More warm! Less disjointed! . . . Ummm, do you just want me to do Xena? Ahh, yes! That's it, do Xena! The voice is perfect! So warm, so commanding, so . . . yeah, yeah, let's get on with it." Wait? You mean to say Lucy Lawless doesn't have tremendous acting range? Who would have ever guessed?
In other comments, Lawless also felt the need to share that this project has no lesbian subtext. I'm not sure why she felt this was significant to mention, nor exactly what her thoughts on the matter are ... but you can rest assured your Dragonlance will be lesbian free.

If you don't think Lucy Lawless has some range, you've obviously never heard her interviewed using her *real* anything-but-American accent. You also never saw her in the Xena Indiana Jones knock-off episode where all the actors played roles outside their usual Xena parts. Lucy played a sweet, feminine, earnest, bumbling reporter to comedic perfection.
No, I'm not an obsessed Xena fan defending my goddess. I saw the show a number of times and enjoyed it but am far from having seen all the episodes. I just think your comment was naively snarky. Until the roles were available to these actresses and presented to the public, who'd have imagined Sally Field (Gidget, Flying Nun) could play the Oscar-winning Norma Rae or that Farah Fawcett (Ms. Charlie's Angel Cheesecake poster of the year) could play the Emmy-winning abused housewife of "The Burning Bed"? If anything is limiting Lucy Lawless's opportunities to play a range of characters, it's most likely a combination of the long-running poppularity of Xena, her size and commanding presence and her own obsessed fandom--not her acting range.

Goldmoon is no Native American!! She is a barbarian princess of the Que-Shu tribe who became the priestess of the Goddess Mishakal!
... now I'm embarrassed with myself. The crap I used to read when I was a kid tend to stay with me.

I'm not impressed with your comments about Lucy Lawless.
Firstly, that site that you took Lucy's quote from is her own site where she talks to her fans about things we specifically know about the rolls she's played. Some of the things she says are "inside jokes" as it were and the lesbian comment was one of them.
Secondly, Lucy has a tremendous acting range and if you sat down and watched Xena or watched her on Battlestar Galactica or in some of the comedy rolls she's played in other shows, you'd most certainly know that.
I AM a Lucy fan because I think she's a tremendous person as well as a wonderful actor so please keep your snarky comments to yourself.

Goldmoon...Native American? Oh, dear... They're trying to make it easier for the masses that don't play D&D or haven't read the book to comprehend what's going on. I can understand why they did that, but that doesn't make me any less upset about changing the content.

I think you are very limited in your knowledge of Lucy Lawless. As the others have pointed out she is very talented. She has done many varied roles and she was refering to the fact in Battlestar she uses her own native New Zealand accent. I don't know much about D and D, She got her information from the people in the production so if you have a bone to pick about that you have it with them.
Lucy is a sweet, generous, tallented person. Yes I am a fan, and I think its a shame you judge people with out watching them.

Goldmoon is no Native American, Que-shu tribe was probaly based from Native Americans, but Goldmoon was blond. I work in a Native American Casino and I have yet to see a blond Native. At least one that claims Native American status.

ZOMG>>>> I absolutely cannot wait for something like this to come out. The only problem is that this is only a part of the series...I also cannot believe that Keifer is gonna be the voice of the most powerful mage of all time....doomed to an eternity of being dragon chow....awesome, I really cannot wait. BTW, I am with Hot Rod, Goldmoon, being barbarian, should probably sound like she is german or something...
