Rob Bowman Wants More X-Files

Yes, X-Files 2 is still an outside possibility. It has been in the works for ages, complicated by everything from actors' schedules to legal battles over revenues. However, the primary three players -- creator Chris Carter and actors David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson -- have all expressed very real interest in returning to the franchise; and as long as you've got that, you've got good odds of the movie eventually coming together. At least you can hope, right?Well you can now add director Rob Bowman to that list. Bowman directed the first X-Files flick, in addition to a number of episodes for the television show. Unfortunately, his record gets pretty spotty after that, having moved on to direct box office mediocrity in Reign of Fire and Elektra. Bowman just recently expressed his interest in a sequel, saying he'd love to do it, but "can't ask himself." He fully recognizes the franchise does not belong to him in any way, and he can only be brought back on board if the previous three are interested in his return. So what do you think, fans? If X-Files 2 does eventually happen, would you want it to be at the hands of Rob Bowman?

Erm- he could always go to scifi conventions and sign autographs with *big stars* like Duchovny and Anderson instead though...

All I know is that if there is another "X-Files" movie, it has to be a stand-alone. No more UFO convoluted mythology crap.

I'm still interested provided they come up with a compelling script that ties off some loose ends. I think Bowman is a good director but he needs sound material.

Bowman is a good director. Just because he took on *Elektra* does not mean he's bad. Jonathan Frakes is also a decent director but he also helmed *The Thunderbirds*.
Point is, give Bowman the shot. Although considering the success Fox has had with *X3*, I wouldn't be surprised if they give the key to Ratner instead.

Btw, *Reign of Fire* was a great genre film. It will be an undiscovered gem for some people who missed it at the box office if they stumble across it at the videostore or NetFlix. Just like *Equilibrium*. Bowman also directed several *Star Trek TNG* episodes back in the day.

Yeah lets have another go. A nice free standing film about government cover-ups. Oops - have fact and fiction collided ? Trust No One.

Yeah, Bowman took on the movies because he wanted the opportunity to direct as well as the paycheck. Every single person out there would have jumped at the opportunity to do this. Give him a good script and he's good to go. He knows the characters, etc. I'd like to see a movie which ties everything up and kills off Scully and Molder. Everything comes to an end at some point.

Bowman was also in the running to helm *I Am Legend* back in 1998 after Sir Ridley Scott bolted from the project's directorial duties.

I've always thought that it would would be a funny change-of-pace to have a plot in which David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson's charactors go to a costume party as John Steed and Emma Peel. Maybe the party could also have Movie and T.V. aliens who turn out to be, in fact, genuine aliens.
