Batman Begins Sequel Gets a Name?

This is probably nothing to get concerned about -- but it is certainly interesting. And it might turn out to be something, so we're going to pass it along to you. It's been known since opening day for Batman Begins that a sequel was on the way. Christopher Nolan certainly won the hearts of audiences and studio executives alike, and all parties involved were pleased to hear another flick was coming. However, Nolan had another project to get together first, and in the meantime we've been left with naught but speculation about what has heretofore been called "untitled Batman Begins sequel project." We know the principle players are returning; director Nolan and actors Christian Bale and Michael Caine along with a few others. We know the Joker will appear as a villain, and we know Harvey Dent will have something to do with the story. That's about the extent of it.A recent comment casually dropped by popular actor Michael Caine (Alfred the butler) has led to a row of internet speculation about a possible title for the new film. To me, it seems like nothing particular to get your feathers up about, but here's the comment: "Christopher Nolan who directed Batman is doing a smaller film called The Prestige about magicians and it's very interesting. And we're going to make The Joker next year." The speculation, of course, is that Caine name-dropped a title, and the new film may be called simply The Joker. I imagine it is far more likely this is nothing more than a working title used between people directly involved in the sequel, but who knows. Stay tuned to Cinematical for further news on the sequel as it draws ever closer ...

If that's the case, the title should be "The Batman Meets The Joker".

I prefer simply: The Joker. There's no reason for the film to have Batman in the title. We'll all know it's a sequel. It's far more creative to get away from the numerical and even colon-specified naming (like Star Wars: Attack of the Clones).

I'm sorry the previous iteration lost its original name: The Intimidation Game. I guess the execs figured they needed something idiot-proof instead.

Man, I liked Nolan's original idea of letting Joker pot boil over. Meaning that Nolan wanted the Joker to be just missed by Batman, and it would go like that up to like the 4th film and then BAM! A big fight when they catch each other. This smells so much like some damn WB execuitve with their greedy little fingers in the already frail cookie jar that is Batman. Nolan got this right finally, Burton couldn't and Joel ruined it, let Nolan do what he does best and let this go the way he wants it to.
And as far as putting Two Face in maybe, I guess it's okay (I mean Two Face was ruined by Jones). I would rather have The Ventriloquist (Paul Giamatti) and maybe a version of Calyface, because of the duality that Bruce will have in the next one, they would be the best reflection of that right now.

Clayface is the ideal villain for the batman begins sequel due to the genuine noir atmosphere that Nolan established in the first film. Joker, unless played and portrayed as an extremely dark and serious psychopath, could throw the film off its novel path as the original bonafide truly dark comic that creator Bob Kane intended. It is plausible that Joker could be an elusive villain that the Batman is becoming aware of as suggested by "Batman Begins", until he is forced to pursue a more lethal social threat represented by a biologically contagious version of Clayface represented in current comic book story lines. Other clayface spin-offs, clayfaces 1, 2 & 3 could further invigorate the story to be pursued in future Batman sequels. The franchise has so much more to offer besides the Joker. That villain has to be developed, over time, through suspense of a continuing chase, into a more than the clown cliche. The puppet wielding Scareface would be another interesting character as well as Killer Crock. The zombie making mad doctor of the original Bob Kane stories or the lethal fire master, the Calender Man, not to mention the KG Beast point to a richer fresher direction than a return to the more mundane and familiar. Ras Ah Gul was a great truly dark start. Nolan must stay on the path he's started to insure the reign of the Dark Knight and DC Comics for a fresh new Era. Indeed, the werewolf like Manbat, with potential for Dr Jekyll Mr Hyde psychological thriller story line, would be a logical direction for Nolan to pursue in bringing the original dark hero signature to the Batman franchise.
