An Adventures in Babysitting Remake

Not long ago, I spoke about how Adventures in Babysitting was the first PG-13 film I watched in a movie theater. Of course, my friend's Mom had to come along, so any feelings of "cool" immediately vanished upon taking our seats. Well, it seems Disney is fond of the original as well, seeing as they've chucked Adventures in Babysitting onto the remake bandwagon and signed on Raven-Symone (That's So Raven) for the lead role.
Raven-Symone? Man, there's no way she's sexier than Elisabeth Shue. Obviously Disney is looking to go the cute, quirky and cuddly route with this one. The original film, which marked Chris Columbus' directorial debut, told the story of a regular old babysitter who gets whisked away for a night of action-packed adventure after setting out, with the kids, to simply pick up a friend stuck downtown.
Personally, I loved the first Adventures in Babysitting and the film definitely holds a piece of my heart. I am a little skeptical about this remake (I wonder if Thor will be in it again?), though part of me hopes it will kick ass. Currently, no director is attached and Lynda Obst, who produced the original, is on board the remake.

I still sing Shue's impromptu jazz number on this one. The film was one of those pleasant surprises.

So Disney fired a bunch of people, is going from 18 to 8 movies a year and they decided to go with this one? Good greif...
The first one was a classic and shouldn't be messed with.

I don't think anybody is sexier than Elisabeth Shue. She's the only thing that made Leaving Las Vegas even remotely watchable.

As long as it has Thor in it like the original I'm in. And by in, I mean at home watching the original and crying a little.
I can't decide if a remake is better than an "American Pie Presents"/"National Lampoon" type tie in, but I would choose a straight sequel in this case. Its been long enough that you could have the kids of those kids, or even totally unrelated kids and a babysitter. Just use the name, and leave us the original. Like throwing 'Star Wars' in front of some CG demos meant to push DLP sales.
Its like when they talked about doing a sequel to Goonies a few years ago. Its sounds like a bad idea, but why not see what the kids of those characters would do on their own adventure. And with the current popularity of Pirates... Final Draft here I come.

My husband and I saw this movie on our first date 19 years ago. We still quote it to this day: "Nobody leaves without singin' the blues." A remake would soil my fond memories so it's not something I'll see.

They're remaking this movie already? Way to make me feel old. I can't believe Disney decided to go with Raven on this one -- they're going to ruin one of my favorite '80s flicks!!

Straight to DVD!
What a BADDDDDDDD idea! First was a classic! Raven? Didn't I read in this blurb yesterday that someone wrote she was a "household name"? NOT IN MY HOUSE! She was a cute kid on the Cosby Show years ago. Enough Said.
#11 - Right on!!
