More Exciting Fantastic Four 2 News

I know there are many legitimate complaints for True Believers to make when it comes to the recent Fantastic Four movie. Any of us could work up a pretty respectable list of grievances to hand in to the folks at Marvel. Despite said complaints, though, as mentioned before I genuinely enjoyed the film, unlike many of my fellow fans. If, however, I were to work up such a list, at the very top would be the character portrayal of Reed Richards. I know -- of all the things to complain about, why pick that one at the top? Because I love the Four, I guess. Reed is a tech geek, sure ... but he is not a weak, whiny pansy who gets pushed around by everyone. Dude is one of the most important leaders in the entire superhero world. In the movie, he was a pantywaist.Imagine my joy, then, when I read the following comments from one of the primary script writers for the Fantastic sequel: "I think the one thing I really want to do is make Reed Richards, that character, smarter and tougher. He's the leader. I think Ioan [Gruffudd] did a great job [in the first film], but I think he could have had more stuff to play as the leader. Reed Richards has his nerdy side, but he ultimately has to make some tough choices." Amen. I am now fully ready to accept a Fantastic Four sequel with an open heart. Let us hope that they make many such changes for the better.

I'm a lifelong FF fan, and I also really enjoyed the film. The same sort of things that folks pointed to as "cheezy" I thought were found in Spider-Man as well, and everyone gave that a pass, so I'm not sure why FF took such a beating. It was SO much fun to go to. But, Reed was a big dissapointment. Especially after seeing the Incredibles (how did Marvel not sue (!) over the Invisible Girl with Force Fields?) where they did so many fun and interesting things with Elastigirl, Mr. F just didn't cut it.
As much as I'm excited about this news, I'm still very nervous about the possibility of them going for the Surfer (and Big G?) in the next film.
My suggestion? A combo ... Spike Lee as Puppet Master, and Reed working on a Negative Zone portal in the lab, and someone under PM control lets out ... Annihilus! No real effects required for mind control, but Neg Zone would be a great green-screen opportunity.

I also enjoyed the first movie, despite its flaws and all the whiners complaining everywhere about it; I agree that the Reed character needed to be beefed up, and feel confident about the sequel.

Although never a very big FF fan, I was very put off by the way Sue Storm was portrayed in the film. In the comics, it is her brain that is her greatest asset, superpowers aside. In the movie, she was played almost strictly for sex appeal. I did not like the casting of the character, or the constant pouty looks she assumed. The character would have been FAR more effective if a less glamorous actress had been cast and then allowed to show inner strength rather than a Playboy centerfold body.
