Eric Bana Would Like a Hulk Sequel

If you haven't heard the latest news on the Hulk pseudo-sequel rumblings, let me quickly fill you in before we discuss today's news -- otherwise, you'd probably be a bit confused. Hulk, as a movie, disappointed most fans. It might have been an interesting character study, or whatever, but it wasn't what we wanted from a Hulk film. The bad reception made the possibility of a sequel very slim; Marvel now says they are handling the property themselves, and will NOT be making a sequel, but will instead just "try again" with a new Hulk film. A restart, if you will. Since that announcement, rumors have flown fast and furious regarding who will play the new Hulk. The only thing more or less everyone agreed on was that it would not be Erik Bana, star of the recent Hulk flop.Bana, however, would like to be considered. When asked recently about his thoughts on returning to the franchise (by a scooper over at Superhero Hype), he did not outright deny it, as we all expected he would. Instead, he said it depends on a lot of things, like the script, the timing and whether they want him. He'd like to, and he's looking to talk about "that one real soon." The highlighted emphasis is my own, because I consider it to be the key phrase in this comment. If Marvel wants to clearly break from the first film and start over again, they surely wouldn't use the same actor, right? That'd cause all manner of sequel/not-a-sequel confusion. ...

I thought "Hulk" was a pretty ok movie. It could have been sooooooo much better, but it was pretty ok. (Same category as "Daredevil" and "Spawn" for me). I do not think Bana will be in the restart. Marvel needs to start completely fresh with the restart, and hopefully have a more interesting story this time around. And more destruction...yes, definitely more destruction. xD
Curiousity question though, for you Mark, and for those who post after me--
Who would YOU cast as Banner, if you were in charge of the casting? Or would you bring Bana back?

The Hulk wasn;t that bad as everyone says- but it wasn;t good either. I wouldn;t start a restart - many fans still have that bad taste in their mouths from the first- it will be a gamble - I would do a sequel -a special -one in which he (Hulk)helps the Planet earth against an unbeatable alien force , that is until the Hulk shows up- The Trailer will bring back the fans with the bad taste-Luis

I think the first Hulk left a bad taste in everyones mouth - why a restart -? It will be a big gamble- what they should do is have a alien force attack the planet earth- and seem unbeatable until the Hulk comes from out of nowhere and start to kick some alien ass- while the Army who once chased him are now fighting with him against this terror from outerspace- special effect galore - super trailer -BLOCKBUSTER !!!! HULK becomes a hero -- MONSTER NO MORE!! MAKE MINE MARVEL -- Luis

Yeah, I liked Erik Bana. I thought he did pretty good. But they should for sure use a different guy to make it seem new like they want. mMaybe Christian Bale, they look the same to me.

Luis, that would be rather neat. I'd pay to see it. But it still would come down to who is cast as our favorite badass green dude, no? I read a recent post on here about Brendan Frasier being considered and THAT was a scary thought. xD
(Not that I don't like him--he's adorable and awesome in the Mummy movies, but I just can't envision him as, well, one of my fav Marvel characters. It's like Michael Bay directing Transformers...oh wait...)

I was really disappointed in The Hulk. I guess I grew up in different story line and was totally lost as to what was happening. I only caught up when I read the new story line. Too complex for me. Radiation makes hero's lives. The effects were awsome, but the movie was way to drawn out.

I hated the Hulk movie, and that's saying a lot because I like some pretty bad movies.
I would recommend they get some unknown newbie to play banner, someone who's skinny and nerdy looking. I'd say Tobey Maguire would be perfect, but that would just be silly.

Hulk is NOT going to be a restart. That was a misinterpretation. Hulk is getting a make-over not a do-over. He's gonna look different (smaller), and the movie tone will be lighter on pyscho-drama, and heavier on heroics, and action. Banner will also be a fugitive like in the TV series. Incredible Hulk (sequel) takes place after the events of the first film. All of this has been confirmed by everyone involved including the writer. Avi just said "do-over" when he was trying to mean "make-over" to maximize box office potential. It's gonna be more fun and the characters from the first film will be further developed. See no need for Connely's character in this one.

The Hulk movie was boring. It had some cool elements, but was just too long and talkie. If you are going to have ridiculous pseudo-science & pseudo-psychology in your film, don't dwell on it, it just makes it seem more unbelievable.

Bana was not the problem with the film. The script and the direction were the problems. So Marvel should not take its "failure" out on Bana but on themselves for greenlighting the prior adaptation.
If this goes straight-to-video, watch for Brandon Routh to be a contender now that Superman is as dead as Krypton.

I thought the Ang Lee Hulk was an ok film and Bana an atypical but surprisingly good Bruce Banner. Something was off, however, and I've never been able to pinpoint what went wrong. Jennifer Connolly was totally miscast, and the Hulk effect should have been based more on the actor than the director. Ultimately, however, it's a dark story and a lot of moviegoers don't like ambivalent endings.

I thought Bana was a tremendous Bruce Banner. I agree with (The) Jeremey that the direction of the film was what made it so off-putting. And yet, a more judicious editor could have made a much better film out of the Ang Lee's cut. At times, his version was downright beautiful. It just could have been a much tighter flick. I don't see the need to re-tell the origin of the Hulk all over again; it's sort of superfluous. Why not just use Bana again and do a sequel with a more action-adventure feel which refers to the previous film as little as possible?

I thought Ang Lee's Huk was a very good film with a great cast and excellent special effects. It would be a shame to replace Bana with another actor as I thought he did a great job in the role. It sounds like this next Hulk film is going to be some run of the mill, brainless smash 'em up movie where he just creates mayhem for 90 minutes.
Think I'll pass on the sequel.
