Superman Sequel With General Zod?

When Bryan Singer announced he'd be resurrecting the Superman movie franchise, more or less everyone presumed this meant a new life for the series. Sequels were discussed almost before the cameras started rolling on the original film. However, the high budget flick hasn't performed quite as well as everyone expected, and the word from the studio now says Returns needs to break the $200 million mark (presumably in domestic box office sales) to warrant a sequel. Even then, his budget will be drastically cut down. Returns is chugging away domestically -- technically it is outpacing the performance of Batman Begins -- and so a $200 million mark is entirely within the realm of probability. Should it hit, you can bet on Singer and company jumping at the chance to put together a sequel, if for no other reason than to prove they weren't a death knell for the franchise. So, what would be the plot of such a sequel? Well nobody really knows, of course, but rumors have started flying due to a t-shirt. Yes, a t-shirt. At a UK premiere for Returns, director Bryan Singer invited his writing partners onto the stage with him. One of them was wearing a shirt which proudly declared "Kneel Before Zod." So of course this means a sequel would be the return of Zod, right? Very tenuous details to base a rumor on, but that's why they call them rumors, right? And Zod would be cool.

This is totally putting the cart before the horse. Not to mention beating said horse to death.
*Batman Begins* had legs and a major positive word-of-mouth buzz generated by those who saw it in the theatre that directly influenced those who stayed home (due to the prior travesty known as *Batman & Robin*) into buying and renting it on DVD. This film has no such luck so the DVD sales/rental argument based upon the success of *Batman Begins* has no merit here. After all, the DVD sales/rentals of *Catwoman* did not merit a sequel, and it was almost $100 million cheaper budget-wise than this stinker.
If anything, Singer talking about sequels at this point reminds me of all the talk Joel Schumacher made about *Batman V* following the release of *Batman & Robin* (which was a modest financial success). Make of that what you want but I think the most fitting thing to say would be to quote Bones with "its dead, Jim."

Add in all the marketing ancillaries -- toys, etc -- and Supes Returns is a huge hit. Plus, the cast signed for three films. Oh, and Cast Sean Bean as General Zod.

And if I might add, the only people who should be kneeling are Singer and his "wonder twins" writing staff. Kneeling before Byrne, Loeb, Dini/Timm, and even the *Smallville* producers.
I'd pay $10 to see Kevin Smith banish Jon Peters into the Phantom Zone, but that's a whole different subject.

Jeremy Irons as Zod is a great suggestion! Seriously, I don't know about Singer helming another Supe flick, unless he can produce a better movie with less of a budget. I'm still numb over this one. It didn't do it for me. And as far as his 'boys' penning another movie? Get some "big league" players, not amateurs.

That "Kneel Before Zod" shirt is available for the public to buy and I've seen numerous people wearing it, I don't know why this is some kind of hinting indication that Zod will be in the next movie, which would be a bad idea if you ask me. This was the same problem with Singer's X movies, there are more villains out there besides Magneto, and I certainly wouldn't want to see Lex Luthor be the villain of every movie or old villains in the next movies. Plus, if you were to cast Zod again, cast Gary Oldman.

Magneto wasn't the bad guy in x-men 2. Brian Cox was.
Anyway I'd rather see a different bad guy, give me braniac or metallo or bizzaro even...or all 3

OK before everyone starts going and casting Zod lets all remember one major thing - Superman Returns sucked because it took the movie continuity as the bible and not the amazing last 10 years of Superman comics ( one of the reasons why X3 did so much better, Ratner knew to get repeat viewings over opening weekend he had to make it geek-worthy and he did that in spades while Singer tried to make it more mass and by doing so diluted it too much)
ALthough I love Zod - and mostly because of the great Terrence Stamp's portrayl - there are tons of better and more visually exciting Superman villians to come out and I hope Singer decides to use them - Brainiac, Parasite, Doomsday and my personal face METALLO - The Man with the Kryptonite Heart - in just those words you can already see in your mind an amazing action packed film that you have never seen before.
I hope Singer decides to tap in the COMICS this time, like he did with X-Men to great acclaim...I need something to get the ridiculous image of Superman throwing a Kryptonite island into space from my mind....

Superman Returns follows where Superman II left of and in that movie, ZOD looses all his powers and falls from a height that will certainly result in any gravity obeying creature's death! ZOD,in my opinion cannot return and I hope we get to see SUPES fight either BIZZARO or a totally new super-villian that can match LEX LUTHOR or ZOD!

while zod allows for great flashbacks to krypton and would be a villain capable of making a superman "action" movie, instead of a thinking villain like LL, i have to agree with #10... he's gone. Let's see doomsday or metallo.
