Transformers News from ComicCon: The Real Optimus Prime is Back!

Ok, so you know how everyone has been freaking out about who is going to voice Optimus Prime and his friends in Michael Bay's Transformers? Well, worry no longer, friends: It was announced at ComicCon today that Peter Cullen, the man who was Optimus Prime in the cartoon, will be returning for the movie! (I guess he came through that audition ok.) Can I get a hell yes? And can it possibly be that Bay isn't going to screw this up? While I'm not personally ready to go quite that far yet, I'm guessing that this decision, quite reasonably, will go a long way towards getting the fanboy crowd in his corner. Next question: Will the rest of the original cast be returning, as well?

I'm fairly ambivalent on the Transformers flick so far, as I wasn't all that into the cartoons/toys, but I like this move. Classy move to stick with the old voice actor instead of hiring Brendan Fraser or Hugh Jackman to do it.

I'd absolutely LOVE it if they got as many as the origional voice actors as possible. I'd rather hear the voices I remember vs a celebrity hired for their name, not their voice.

When I heard that they were going to have the original voice of Optimus Prime, I cried with joy for about an hour. Now all they need to do to make me happy is to have Meagatron's original voice and I will see that movie at least six times.

This is awsome. I remember when transformers went of the air when i was a kid, and it was devestating. Now a movie, with original voices possibly, i will be able to have fun with my kids watching it with the new special effects. This is the best idea since the ninja turtles movies.

I am very happy they got Peter Cullen to do Optimus. Maybe this wont be a Predator vs. Aliens movie and will kick major arse! Let's hope Bay does it justice but in the mean time, thanks for getting Mr. Cullen. Indeed a first class move to honor a franchise many of us grew up with.

If you've seen how they "creatively redesigned" how the robot & vehicle modes look, you'll realize that BAY SOLD THE FANS UP THE RIVER!

They've also made Ratchet a puke green rescue vehicle, Bumblebee a yellow camaro, etc.
