Kevin Smith to Bryan Singer: Superman Needs More Gay!
Hey, here's a great Monday Morning Poll: When will Kevin Smith finally shut the hell up? The Clerks 2 director recently slammed Superman Returns, claiming he was upset Bryan Singer didn't make the film more gay. Smith, who was once working on his own draft of Superman, was hoping Singer would make a really gay Man of Steel, instead of, what Smith calls, "Jesus' Superman." In fact, he'd rather have had Singer take on X-Men 3 saying, "I was really looking forward to him doing the third one because it would be an out-and-out gay fantasia--I was hoping that the dude would go for a kind of 'Brokeback Mutant' kind of movie, but he opted to do Superman." Hmm, do I detect a hint of jealousy? Hey Kevin, let us know when you've finished, Jay and Silent Bob Return Again Because I've Run Out of Ideas -- we're all dying to see it.
Jackman's Jeans Worth a Small Fortune!
Have you ever wondered how much it would cost to get into Hugh Jackman's pants? How about $22, 476? I'm not joking. An old pair of blue jeans once owned by the X-Men star were auctioned off recently as part of a fundraising event for the Children's Medical Research Institute in Sydney. "Jeans for Genes" featured 17 pairs of pants once worn by folks like Nicole Kidman and model Megan Gale. That's right, and a sign out front read, "Note to fat people: These will not fit you!" Just kidding. Or am I? In case you're wondering, Kidman's jeans sold for only $8,200. Hey, who knew she was such a cheap date?
Salma Hayek is Not Rich!
Listen up folks -- Salma Hayek does not have $100 million dollars. Get it through your head. Stop spreading rumors. The woman is dirt poor, ya dig? I heard she's peddling pictures of herself in a bathing suit outside a Motel 6 in order to help pay for her next meal. Seriously, get your facts straight. Recently, the very beautiful actress was pissed after local media in Mexico and Latin America claimed Hayek had earned northward of a $100 million. This, she claims, is not true. According to Hayek, if she did have that much money, she would do a lot more to help the poor ... instead of simply ignoring the vile creatures. As if this story isn't absurd enough, check out the following sentence from the attached article: "With things as they are in Mexico, it bothers me that they put me in a group of millionaires with $100 million I don't have when there are so many people dying of hunger," Hayek said, pausing the interview in a brief panic to scoop a drowning rat out of her swimming pool." I love it! Now, would a millionaire really have time to save a drowning rat? I think not.

At least smith admits he makes bad movies. Singer acts like Superman was a good movie. That toad had the audacity to blame marketing for Superman's failure. IMHO, Singer's not made a decent film since The Usual Suspects. That said, Smith's last great film was Chasing Amy. Clerks 2, FWIW, is ten times more entertaining than Supers...which isn't saying much considering how awful superman was.

To Kevin Smith:
Stop being a baby. Your movies are the worst. Ed wood is a better director then you. How your making movies is beyond me. You have the chance to actually make some good movies but instead you make movies with the same stupid characters. You even made a movie about all your movie's inside jokes. Go on a retreat or something. Hike up some damn woods and have a vision quest or something. Clerks 2 huh what will you think of next.
Go watch some Kubrick and think some.
Hoping that you'll read this,

"Clerks II" was a far more entertaining and satisfying movie experience than "Superman Returns," at a (miniscule) fraction of the cost.
Apparently, trying to generate controversy by misrepresenting Kevin Smith quotes, and/or taking them out of context, is also quite inexpensive.

"Hey Kevin, let us know when you've finished, Jay and Silent Bob Return Again Because I've Run Out of Ideas -- we're all dying to see it." Lol. Burn! I have no problems with Kevin Smith, but I like a good dis when I read it.
I think Mr. Smith's problem is his fan base, though. While watching Clerks II, I couldn't help but think that he was using Dante as a mouthpiece to express his own personal desire to grow up and do something different. Of course, he did TRY to do something different -- it was called Jersey Girl -- and see where it landed him?

How is what Kevin Smith said a 'slam' of Brian Singer? He doesn't even say "Superman Returns" sucked, which it did, all he says is he expected and now wishes Brian had gone a different way with the adaptation. Not even a criticism, much less a 'slam'.

I thought Superman Returns was gay, and not in the good "Queer Eye" way. It was the story of a Man who searches for a home, accidentally has a child with a woman he can't connect with emotionally and his only friend is a young boy toy photographer. When he's closeted he is awkward, but when he gets into drag he's a Super MAN! Ultimately he gets stabed in the back by his(L)ex boyfriend. That whole scene was a rippoff of brokeback Mtn's beat down scene.
Ultimately it was all as gay as Top Gun.

I think it is very unfortunate that Bryan Singer did not complete the trilogy of the X Men 3 The Last Stand he would certainly have had much more succes with that than Superman Returns - which to me isnow dated.
Saying that I cannot fault Brett Ratner coming in as the third director and giving his own touch made the film excellent - it moved faster and had much more emotion than the previous two and this worked beautifully. In so much drama, action and wonderful stunts we need love, emotion and heartbreak - tears fell and then - it becomes real not like most of the actin films

I saw the same interview on Leno and I don' know how you couldn't include the fact that everything he said was with a smile on his face. I'll admit, I find Smith to be a joy to listen to and if you ever saw "An Evening With Kevin Smith", this same thing happend with Tim Burton already. The man is joking, that's what he does.
As far as Jersey Girl, he admits it sucks. How can you slam a guy for making the same movie over and over, and then when he tries something different, say the same things? Either you try something new or you don't, doesn't mean it always works either.

Not for nothing... but me joking about "Superman Returns" on a talk show (Conan) is not me "slamming" the flick.
And as far as when I'll shut up...
I mean, dude - who said to run that story at all? It's not like a press release was sent out or something. But I'm out on the road, doing talk shows and whatnot, to promote "Clerks II". What am I supposed to do? Sit there and say nothing?
Christ, cut me some slack.

I really hate the attempt to portray celebrities in the same category as the super rich. Outside of the top male stars, known actors do well for themselves for however long (or brief) their careers span. While many descend from relative privilege, we are not talking the same kind of money and power as those wealthy enough to keep their names out of the press. And at least actors, for whatever reason, engage in public and private charities which the super rich are decreasingly doing. In fact, economists predict that if Congress repeals the estate tax, charitable giving will plummet.
By mocking celebrities, we take the pressure off those who are truly powerful or rolling in dough who don't feel any responsibility toward the society that so benefited them. And we make it a Catch-22: if a celebrity publicly promotes a charity or makes political statements, we deride them; yet if they stay silent we assume they are soulless.

Supermna Returns was about as good as I expected... though a lot of the CGI looked suprisingly bad. The problem with Superman is that he is a big dork. The movie kind of made light of this, which worked, but he's still a dork. Add to that that he's basically all-powerful unless you have Kryptonite and you end up with the same situations played out over and over in the comics and movies... Maybe the next film will bring back General Zod, or another villian that is on equal terms with Supes. That could be interesting.
As far as Singer goes, X2 was a great superhero movie... A big improvement over the first one, which was okay. I didn't like X3 all that much, too many hard to swallow scenes and situations, as well as characters acting out of character (though that isn't Ratner's fault, it's the writers).
For example: Magneto seemed to be written as almost a parody of the character from the first two films... and stupid. Hekept doing things that just didn't make sense... I really doubt he (being a criminal mastermind) would abandon Mystique in government custody after she was turned back into a human, if for no other reason than she knew all his plans. Magneto is smart enough to realize that if he betrays his lover, who happens to be in jail, maybe she would spill the beans on his plans! It would have been more believable, character-wise, if he had killed her... or taken her with to see if there was a cure for the cure. That's just one example, there were many such seeming holes/jarring character moments in X3.
